8 month old weaning herself off milk

Hello all
my baby is starting to weaning herself off milk since about 6 months old. I try “dream feed” her before she wakes up in the morning and when she goes to bed at night, she’s not interested in milk during the day but I do offer sometimes she’ll have some sometimes not . She is eating solids well and drinking water.
can I just let her wean herself?
she has 4 3oz bottles a day
it’s becoming stressful for us both trying to get her to have milk.

She's obviously ready to have solids during the day with milk before bed seems the right way to go

My siblings and I were all totally weaned at that age! (different advice back then)

If she's taking it at night, great. If she's eating solids well and continuing to gain weight, fantastic! I wouldn't force it if she doesn't want it other times

My eldest fed until he was nearly 4, so when my youngest gave me a look, pulled my t-shirt down (!) and patted me at about 8 months I was astounded. He just wasn't interested once he'd tasted real food! - I think he just had better stomach capacity, because he was a much better sleeper than his brother, and was sleeping through not much after he stopped feeding.

Go with it - if she's done with milk and happy with food, and still happy/healthy/growing then why not!

Yea if she's happy with solids, still putting on weight and weeing and pooing, then it's fine. If you're worried, use formula or breast milk for things like milky cereal like porridge or for mash potatoes etc.

thank you all for taking the time to reply, I really do appreciate it!

It’s so stressful seeing her not take what’s supposed to be recommended and people saying she has to have X amount or she’ll need supplements.

she gets 3 meals a day which she eats well bar her dinner which can be hit or miss some days.

she’s a big girl almost 10kg now so I suppose I feel like she should be well able to take the milk but she just doesn’t want it and will get very upset at it too which is hard to see :(

she’s having maybe 10-15oz a day

My LO is 8 months on Sunday and we are rapidly heading down this route too….

He had awful reflux and has been on goats milk formula (which seemed to help) but the last 4 weeks since his solids have increased he’s really not that bothered for milk except for his very first bottle of the day which he will happily take.

Ive been finding bottles stressful too and I’m sure he started picking up on it so I’ve backed off a bit and just tried to incorporate formula in other ways now. He’s having about 14-17oz in bottles a day and as PP has suggested I’ve been adding some to his food, mash and porridge or in a creamy sauce etc.

He seems happy enough and weights about 10.5kg. HV didn’t seem concerned really and just said to ensure lots of dairy where possible - yogurt and cheese etc which he loves. Relaxed a bit more now and just let him drink what he wants and I’ve stopped pushing him to try a little more and it’s made things a lot easier. I just try to ensure a healthy diet to get his nutrients in 😊

Don’t worry. As others have said as long as she is gaining weight, has lots of heavy wet nappies etc. she’s fine. Do introduce multivitamins (that contain A, C and D) if she is having less than 500ml of formula per day. This is NHS guidance and they should continue to have supplements until they are at least 5:

Hi op My ds (now 12!) refused milk from about 6 months.. he had the odd cup of milk usually room temp.. I didn't give him any supplements.. you could just increase calcium rich foods at mealtimes.. Best of luck with it
