DS is 2 and half and keeps waking at 4:30. We have tired cutting down his nap, we have a grow clock and also tried a later bedtime.
He goes to bed at 7 and naps for about 1.5 hours after lunch so between 12:30 and 1. When he wakes we put him back to bed with a cuddle but he gets out again goes to the door and cries until we go in.
Any ideas of how to get him to sleep longer?

I could have written this! Same age too. We cut the nap down to two hours and he goes ro bed at 8pm now. We had two 5.30 wake ups and now back to 4.30! 😭 I can’t cope anymore.

didn’t try groclock, didn’t work for my older child. I can’t cut afternoon nap completely, he won’t manage without a nap.

Is he cold? Does the heating kick on at half 4?

Hungry? Give him a supper before bed.

Is he able to stay awake longer after waking up from his nap?
My DD is 22.5 months and she needs 7h after her nap to sleep well. I also give her dinner later in the evening so that she doesn't wake up early because of hunger. Also she naturally sleeps only 10h a night so with 7pm bedtime it would take her to 5am. Hence she goes to bed later.

The heating comes on at about 4 in his room and he has his dinner at 6ish and he doesn't ask for food straight away. We tired pushing bedtime back but then he is tired during dinner and makes bedtime really difficult as he is over tired by then.

the 90 minute nap, id reduce to 45 minutes for a week and see how you go, also move the nap to 1pm - 1.30 if you can by moving the nap 10 minutes each day

Is the heating coming on waking him?

Can you try pushing the heating start time back to 5am? Human beings need to be cool to sleep well, and warming up is often a prompt to wake.

Heating was my thought too. Does it need to come on so early?

VivaVivaa · 26/02/2024 08:47

I’d lose the nap completely

ThatAlertMoose · 26/02/2024 10:29

Okay thanks everyone will try the heating this week and will try a shorter but later nap and see how it goes
