Around lunchtime today dd (7) suddenly got a fever , felt nauseous (didn’t vomit), shivery and fell asleep for 3 hours. When she woke up she still had a fever and said nothing hurt but she felt ‘funny’. Didn’t want any dinner at all.

At bedtime she managed some toast and water, fever had gone (and the paracetamol had worn off so it wasn’t just being masked). Dp said ‘that’s good at least she will be fine for school!’ I said that i would be keeping her off tomorrow as something clearly wasn’t right and he disagrees and keeps saying it won’t be accepted as she’s fine now ? I said at least let’s see how she is overnight ? He said no she’s fine it was just a transient thing but I want to keep an eye on her just in case. The school don’t send kids home unless they have a fever over 38 and today dd was 38.4 but then later on still burning up and shivering but 37.9 so I don’t feel reassured she would be sent home

Yeah bed rest and lots of sleep
And no mobile phones plenty of fibre so that's light stuff first and then give it a few hours , chicken soup is brilliant if you are feeling rough at that age and toast and start slowly and try and encourage yourself and her to get some fresh air and exercise when it's safe to walk around.

It's most likely
This awful sore
Throat/ cold thing that's doing the rounds at the moment there's this also nasty vomititng bug that was around in 2023 .

I had my flu jab this year so maybe it's that version or a stronger variant strain of
It. Or a stronger version of a diahorrea vomiting bug normally that's around 38-39 degrees but yes also ring NHS 111 and get their view if there is a rash and it doesn't disappear it's probably early symptoms of meningitis or a infection. If it's lingering than 3-4 days it's more urgent to visit a consultant at the nearest hospital department for kids .

@Lifeistough74

have you posted on the wrong thread??

@InThedeepEndagain

i certainly wouldn't be waking her (or allowing your DH to) Given your schools reluctance to send them home I'd probably opt for keeping her home anyway.

Hope she's ok though xx

I’m currently 4 days into a virus. My daughter had it for over a week. One min her temp was fine, next it wasn’t. Same as myself. So she might be fine AM but not okay by lunch time. I would keep her off. Hope she feels better soon.

If she's ok in the am I'd send her in.....if not then I wouldn't.

All the schools and nurseries where I live have a 24 hour (or greater) rule. Any fever or vomiting within 24 hrs means they can't attend school.

48 hours here, how strange

If she’s feverish and unwell you don’t really want to pass it round school. Some other children may be more vulnerable or have vulnerable family members at home.
