1st time toddler mum, DS is 26mo, got a newborn DD 3 weeks old

he is a little behind on words can’t fully communicate his wants etc

but we noticed he seems to be a bit shy as of like 2 months before his 2nd birthday?

we took him to a one off toddler class/playgroup before Christmas and he loved it so we signed up for this week and the next 3, he looked at the door and sobbed wouldn’t go in :(

he is a little tired today but he’s done this in other situations before and I’m unsure what upsets him as they’re all different situations and places it’s not a pattern if that makes sense!

Do I have to just stay in the class and try and ride through it if that makes sense? We left as we didn’t want to have him really upset

he goes to nursery 3 days a week and they say how he’s got friends and playing well

we keep him active he pretty much walks everywhere and we can take him to shops and supermarkets and he’s fantastic!

Any tips ? Basically it’s random meltdowns at random things , I’ll give some examples

  • toddler class we tried in December (not one mentioned in post)
  • went to a distant family members house on NYE and was very nervous and just clung to me upset
  • a doctors appointment 2 weeks ago

and today as mentioned. Just wanted to show how it’s not a pattern and it’s different situations

today he didn’t want to go into DH’s fathers house and had a small meltdown but DH played with him and spoke to him for a bit (I was feeding DD) then he warmed and come in and stayed

so I wonder do we try do this for the class next week? We left quite quick as he was upset outside he only took1 step in

My DD was and still kinda is like this if she finds herself in a new / unexpected situation after a nap. So, for example, if she falls asleep in the car on the way to a friend's party, she'll spend half an hour clinging to me and hiding her face, but if she doesn't sleep on the way, she'll run in straight away, happy as Larry. Could it be that?
