Hi,
I am hoping there are some parents out there who will be able to give me some advice/reassure me that we are worrying unnecessarily! My DD is 3.5- at home she is loud, outgoing and a constant chatterbox. When we are with friends/adult company she is the same. She can talk for hours and her vocabulary is amazing. At nursery, she has always been one of the quieter children but had a good relationship with her key workers. Her current key worker she LOVES and chews her ear off all day, yet refuses 99.9% of the time to talk to her peers. She joins in the activities and group games just does so silently or will choose to talk to her favourite 2 adults instead. Outside of pre-school she does swimming, drama and gymnastics. At swimming and drama she is outgoing (only 2 or 3 other children with her). At gymnastics she is silent (20+ kids) so I can only think it is a confidence thing. Well today nursery have advised us to seek specialist support for her transition to primary through them, they believe she would benefit from someone working with her to ensure she gets the best out of Reception. I don't disagree with this as I do think she will struggle with a new setting but I suppose I am just looking for advice from parents a few years down the line of what helped?! And if your super shy toddlers/preschoolers eventually became more confident? She is a sparky, bright and inquisitive LG and I'd hate for her not to reach her full potential at school because she was too shy to speak.
