How much detail do you need to check?

Just wondering how much detail you want to know before you leave a child in someone else’s care for a while:

It was my daughter’s 7th recently and she was allowed to have her 2 best friends stay over night because I know their parents quite well and they had her over before as well. They all seemed really happy and there were no major issues, but one of their parents reached out afterwards and said that they were unhappy that I had let them watch something unsuitable.
They were annoyed and said that they would have preferred to have known in advance so they could have agreed to it, which is fair enough but I hadn’t really thought about it because I just put on one of my daughter’s favorite films that she had told her friends about. I thought it was really nice to see them huddled up together in a make shift tent in the living room watching “The Last Unicorn”. There were no tears or nightmares as far as I could tell either, and they were all still excited about it the next day.

To be honest I feel a bit confused why this would have been a big deal but I appreciate that I am probably missing perspective here.

Well, I've not heard of the film, but a quick Google has lots of reviews saying it is scary.
The only age rating I could find said for 9+

So, I don't think you should have let dc of 7 watch it, no.

General rule of thumb is that, when looking after other people's dc, you err on the side of caution, and they only watch age appropriate films, even if you know your own dc is comfortable with something aimed at older dc.
