How/where to sell large and expensive baby items online

Hi everyone, I am a first time mum and I would like to sell quite large and expensive baby items such as the Snoo cot, a Maxi Cosi car seat, Babyzen bassinet etc which my baby has outgrown.

I’ve never sold anything online before. What channel did you find the most useful for these types of items? And how do I do it safely - is it ok to have strangers coming to my house? Should I video call them first to make sure they’re genuine buyers? Is it ok to give them my bank details or should I accept cash on collection only? Thanks in advance for all your tips and advice!

I've just sold things like that (SnuzPod, Baby Bjorn bouncer, playmat etc) on Facebook Marketplace. They did come to the house as I specified collection only but all was fine. You could meet in a neutral location if it makes you uncomfortable and specify cash if you don't want to mess about with bank transfers etc. You do get some time wasters who ask if items are available and then disappear when you reply (not sure why they do this!) And there is one scan where they offer to send a courier instead of collecting themselves but these are usually easy to spot and it's usually just normal people looking for a bargain!

I think bank transfers are safe, as are PayPal friends and family only. Don't use goods and services as those transactions can be reversed and you've given your item away for free essentially.

I don't find vinted good for expensive bsby items, unless you are happy for them to go for not much money. Vinted is better for cheaper things, although you can pick up some great bargains on toddler clothes etc

Ebay is pretty good but you could also see if there's an NCT fair near you in the next month or two? That's where I bought my first pram, and to be honest I could have got it cheaper online! It's relatively effortless in that you pay a small commission & the volunteer team sells it for you & does all the go-between like showing how to unfold the pram to potential customers. You can price things as you like or be open to offers too. www.nct.org.uk/get-involved/fundraise-for-us/buy-or-sell-nct-nearly-new-sale

For large item’s definitely Marketplace as posting would be a hassle for large items. You don’t need to give them your address until you are happy but most people are real. Block anyone who wants to use a courier to pick it up. There might also be local parents groups or buy and sell groups for your local area which you can join and post about your items. Some popular brands have dedicated groups too. Unless a particular brand is very popular you probably won’t get high prices for anything.

Thank you all for the helpful tips! Has anyone also had experience of using Gumtree?
