Nappy help?

We have 26mo DS, we’ve always used pampers

He’s been in size 6 for just under a year now! He has grown a bit taller, weight wise I think only the right amount for his growth? He hasn’t suddenly gained weight or anything but he is growing very well

the nappies work fine and we never usually get leakages unless he drinks all of the water in his cup that he has by his bed overnight - but he only drinks all of this if he has a cold/cough with a dry throat so we don’t usually get leakages

however( the past 2 nights (he’s not woke for water / touched any in his cup) he’s leaked? Through the back like the bum bit

is this an issue in how I’m putting it on or is it a nappy issue ? The nappy is very full as tho he’s had a big. Drink so it isn’t just slipping out the nappy

but I wondered do I need more absorbent ones for night as he doesn’t need the size up I don’t think, I think doing this would cause leaks through gaps but also need something to hold the wee in?? As he’s weed a lot overnight these past few nights

This might seem an odd question but is he ready for (daytime) potty training? If you can do daytime training and they have a wee just before bed you can reduce the night time output.

As they get bigger in my experience there’s nothing that can completely hold a big night time wee, but a higher absorbency definitely worth a try.

@AlltheFs Not odd at all :) so not yet but he’s started to understand and be able to communicate when he’s weed/weeing or pooped

so we did discuss more potty time and focus on it so maybe I could try this time just before bed? Ensure he has a wee then?

yeah it’s hard as it has been random how he’s had really big wees but no liquid overnight so the nappy would hold an amount but when I take it off I can’t believe how heavy it is!!!

Try a night time pull up style instead of a nappy. And sit him on the toilet for a wee before bed.

You might need to do a dream change at this stage. (My dh got really good at this with my dd).

So you change the nappy when the LO has been asleep a few hours, just before you yourself go to sleep, and do it gently enough that LO stays asleep. Say, 11pm. There should be a big wee in there by then.

It's the only thing that prevented night leaks for us when dd was older than 2yo. She potty trained around 2y3m if I recall

Ps you need to choose pyjamas strategically for dream changes ... so no onesies. Loose pyjama bottoms that can be slid off. Quickly lift the legs, take off the old nappy, just a quick dry with a flannel and then new nappy on. Slide pj bottoms back up. If you do it quickly enough, without turning all the lights on, LO won't wake up!

Agree with pp suggestions and to add you can get "plus size" Nappies so try 6+ at night? I think they're more absorbent and slightly larger. I've not tried this but a friend also used to swear by putting two Nappies on her dd at night! One on normal and then one back to front over the top! Good luck!
