So I have the gro egg that tells u the temperature of room and if it’s too warm or cold. My rooms seems to constantly be 20-23 degrees which says it’s warm. What do I dress her into sleep ? She’s in a sleep sack and sleeps in a 2.5 tog should it be smaller tog ? Baby grow and vest or just a vest ? What about bottoms ? Help a very worried first time mummy who doesn’t wanna over heat her baby 😭

We keep our room cool 16 or 17 degrees normally and our baby is in a 2.5 tog sleeping bag with a vest and baby grow.

I think for 20-23 degrees a lighter tog would be better. 1 tog with vest and baby grow, or if you still want to use the 2.5 tog bag then just a vest on. No need for bottoms unless the baby's legs and feet feel cold in the morning when you lift them out of the bag. You can check your baby's temperature during the night by feeling their chest (should be warm but not hot).

My LOs room at the minute is 19-20 and he’s in 2.5 tog with vest and a thinner fabric sleep suit on top.

His previous room was about 22/23 and he was borderline too warm, footless sleepsuits helped keep him a little cooler though.

I found 1.5 tog to be really cool and comfortable but still snuggly. It isn’t a very common tog to see in shops (I think I got them from John Lewis and one from Tesco possibly). I still put him in vest and sleepsuit. He was nice and comfy in that in a warmer room.

Anything over 20 and I would definitely drop to a lighter sleeping bag. Probably one layer of clothes as well. Is there no way to let your room cool down?

There's loads of charts online about how many layers to wear for particular temps.

But just a word of warning, both I and lots of other people I know found the gro-egg to be wildly inaccurate. It would always say the room was warmer than it was by at least a couple of degrees.

It's definitely better for them to be slightly too cool rather than too hot, but as a petrified new mum blindly following guidelines, eventually common sense prevailed when I realised her skin was often pretty cold to touch (and not just her extremities). After that we bought a couple of different room thermometers which confirmed that the gro-egg was very inaccurate.

Oh this makes sense ! My gro egg said my room was 22 degrees today when I walked in my room it was freezing so I was thinking it didn’t seem right and deffo didn’t feel like 22 degrees ..
