Can anyone help me decide if DS2 is ready for potty training?

Ds2 is 22m.
His brother was dry within days at 2.5m and at night about 3 months after that. The nursery told us he was ready and I thought 'ooo are you sure' but yes he was.
Now, 12m later I am SICK of washing nappies. Had over 3 years of it and 1 year washing them for 2 children.
So am counting the days till ds2 out of nappies but just wondering if I am being a bit previous....

He says wee wee and pulls at his trousers occasionally but has already done a wee. He can tell us he is pooing when the poo is already coming out of his bum.
Thurs and Fri he had long naps and was dry on waking. So I put him on the potty and he did a wee but he doesn't seem to realise what he is doing. Friday he did a wee in the potty and wouldn't put a nappy on. I put him in some pants but he just weed in them half an hour later, although he did say 'wee' when he was doing it.

Does anyone think he is nearly ready for potty training or am I rushing him? If I start trying to train him now will it be a long and messy job and should I wait a bit till he is a bit more understanding?

I know 22m is early for boys to be potty trained but I'm getting desperate to be rid of all the nappy washing. Don't want to start using disposables when the end is in sight!

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but he doesn't sound there to me yet. And if he's not ready then it will be a very long and very messy job!

Knowing that he's done a wee is a step in the right direction, but until he recognises the feeling of knowing when he needs to wee, you are on a hiding to nothing.

Hang on in there - he'll let you know when he's ready

agree with WWB - he doesn't sound quite there yet.

You could sit him on the potty (with his nappy on) when he says he is weeing or pooing, and get him used to the idea that that is where he should do them.

But I agree that there seems little point in trying him without a nappy just at the moment.

Good luck though

I'd rather wait than have the long and messy version!
With ds2 I think he had been ready a while but he was my first and I believed everyone who said 'oh boys take much longer'.

Should I just keep encouraging him to sit on the potty and do a wee when his nappy is still dry at change time as this seems to be happening once a day or so.

I would keep the potty around the house and give your ds plenty of 'naked' time.

See what happens ...

Do not push or press him into anything. Suggest that he might like to 'sit' on it every now and then. If he wee's anywhere near it, just scoop him up and sit him on it. If he gets any in, give lots and lots of praise.

If he is upset at all by any of this, then just go back to just leaving it around the house to be used as a toy-box/hat etc

The key is not to put pressure on. If he's ready he will just start using it
