5 year old waking at night

My DD has been an excellent sleeper since 6 months but in the last month she's started waking frequently at night. She struggles to get back to sleep. I'm thinking some kind of lullaby machine might be good, one she can operate herself. Any recommendations? We had an Ollie the owl that got limited use as a baby but we've passed it on. I wondered about a Tonies box but they are quite expensive...

We have a Yoto mini and my Dd listens to the stories and they’re in all night. Think she finds comfort in hearing them if she wakes. Also going through multiple wake ups letting so I feel your pain. Do you have an Alexa? Calming music might work too.

Could it be molars? I'm trying to think when my eldest cut his final molars.
That said, mine have tonie boxes. I got them second hand. Well worth it

We just have an Alexa with a kids profile. Ds wakes up shouts Alexa, play..... Whatever audiobook he's listening to through my audible account. At the moment it's paddington which lasts about 3 hours.

We have a Yoto and our eldest is almost 5. It was the only thing that kept him in bed when he woke in the night. He puts a story on to go back over to sleep, works perfectly and he finds it easy to use. Tonie boxes seemed geared at a younger age group.

Not molars as she has all her teeth. The Alexa is a good idea, or I'll keep my eyes out for a secondhand tonies or yoto...

What's waking her up? I'd try to figure that out. Is she worried about something? Is the bedroom getting too cold? Does she need a wee? Growing pains, hunger?

LokiCokey · 20/02/2024 20:18

@BertieBotts can't really get to the bottom of it, sometimes she says she scared, or bad dream or can't sleep etc but it's not always consistent...

As she's 5 I'd go Yoto over tonies so you get a bit more longevity from it. You can put podcasts etc on through the app or mindfulness for kids/relaxation etc without buying the cards which is good for just overnight use

Wondering how you got on with this @LokiCokey - found this via search as my 5yo DD going through similar stage 😴

LokiCokey · 29/05/2025 11:17

@LittleLadysMama We didn’t get either in the end as she stopped not long after I posted this. She does now have an Alexa which she can use if she wakes but she can also read better so sometimes just reads to herself.

Growing pains keeps waking my 6 year old up at the moment

I use a lavender spray on her pillow and it seems to put her back into the Zzzz quite quickly
