6 month old will not poo

I’m really desperate for some advice.
My 6 month old since birth has only ever passed stool every 3-4 days but these last few weeks it has got much worse.

She’s going around 7-8 days with out pooing these last couple of weeks and it’s affecting her feeds, I usually offer her 7oz and she’s only drinking 4oz. She’s passing so much wind but no poo. If she does pass any poo it is so rock hard and literally looks like a rock in her nappy.

I’ve tried cooled boiled water, prunes, warm bath and bicycle legs but nothing is working.

Has anyone’s little one had medication for constipation because I feel it’s our only way to solve it 😭

My 7 month old granddaughter has occasionally been constipated. Mum tried prunes, and boiled water. The GP prescribed Lactulose, and that worked.

Get this resolved asap because it can lead to witholding issues and speaking as a mum who is dealing with it, I can tell you, it's hell.

I think first off I'd be trying a sachet or two of laxido a day and see how you get on. Obviously increase fluids as much as possible too.

My little one was the same, not sure if they were a little older but the gp gave suppositories that worked straight away and we had extra to use for it it ever got bad again but once the initial one worked, we kept up with the prunes etc and it seemed to do the trick

Yes lactulose actually as pp said. Laxido for when they are a bit older

We have had lactulose prescribed but luckily haven’t had to use it that much. We had a lot of problems with constipation during weaning and still do occasionally at 19 months. As well as prunes, kiwi fruit and pears are also good and encouraging more water drinking.

Does it affect how your little ones feed? That’s what is worrying me!

Lactulose won’t affect LO’s feeding; we give it twice daily (via a Calpol syringe) and all my DC have been compliant because it tastes sweet!
We have it because of other medications causing constipation.
It’s gentle and effective.

I meant is it normal for constipation to affect feeding :)

@A2010 sorry! But yes, constipation can affect feeding.

Ds was much younger and needed glycerin suppositories which worked, alongside tummy massaging. I remember stress,I feel for you!

What solids have you tried her with so far? Maybe introduce a little kiwi, peach, or apricot? They are known to get things moving

and yes to lactulose

good luck, bless her

She won’t take to puree, she’s not actually 6months until Tuesday which is when I’m going to try BLW

Just remembered another thing that worked - weirdly!
At a baby massage class I learned that pressing I'm the centre of babies foot on the heel with your thumb, press in for 10 seconds or so and repeat a few times.
Anytime I did that would usually end in a poo that day

Just wondering which milk she's on OP and if you've ever tried a Comfort Formula?

If you haven't already, I'd try a comfort formula to see if she improves any.

We've had problems with dd and constipation since she was a few weeks old. She was exclusively bf until 6 months and now at 8 months she's on 3 meals and milk in-between on demand. She's on lactulose twice daily and it helps but we still have days when her poop looks like rabbit droppings. Dr's on Thursday for review. And yes, when it's really bad, she eats very little and is sick after feeds.
