Baby zen yoyo- worth it?

Those of you who bought a baby zen yo-yo what do you think of it? My 2.5 year old is walking a lot but I need a lightweight pram/buggy still as he tires on longer walks. It's so expensive but saw someone with one today and it looks so light and practical.

Adore it for anywhere with pavements. Anything off road and it struggles. But otherwise it is a dream - super light but resilient.

mynameiscalypso · 16/02/2024 22:19

I loved ours but you're only going to get a year or so out of it now so I wouldn't buy full price. We initially bought it for holidays as it fit in the overhead compartment on a plane but we soon started using it all the time in preference to our Bugaboo Bee.

VivaVivaa · 16/02/2024 22:29

We hired one for a while for DC2. It was decent but it didn’t set my world on fire, despite travelling on public transport a lot (which it’s sold for being great for). Unless you get buses, planes and trains a lot and therefore need the compact fold and/or are planning more DC I definitely wouldn’t buy one new for a 2.5 yo. If it’s just for tired legs on walks an umbrella stroller would be fine.

It's is very light and easy to fold. It's small and can easily navigate shops/cafes/buses etc.

I don't think it's easy to push with a bigger child in it though. I wouldn't get one for a baby because it's doesn't parent face.

I think there are cheaper copycat versions now. I'd probably get one of those if it's just for occasional use.

kamaane · 16/02/2024 22:52

Definitely worth it for us. We don't have a car so we use public transport all the time. We have an umbrella stroller but the Yoyo is so much better for bringing on a crowded bus and being able to sit on the top deck as it fits under the seat, or sliding under the table in a cramped cafe. It pushes much better than a cheap stroller even with an older child. It's expensive and we bought one second hand, though tbh they hold their resale value so I wish we'd bought new with a plan to sell it on.
There are newer makes of compact folds so it's worth investigating those as well - the Yoyo still seems to be the most popular one around me in London, but the Bugaboo Butterfly is around a lot too.

Copperoliverbear · 16/02/2024 23:05

I love mine.

Poundtown · 17/02/2024 08:33

Thanks all, I thought it might be worth it as we walk so much, but if it's only good on pavements I'll probably need to get something else.

I've put off getting anything because, as PP say, he won't need it long. But we're at the stage now I really need something lightweight for walks. Hoping to have a second child so should be worth the money whatever we do decide to get.

Light and compact and needing suspension beyond that required for pavements don’t really go together by definition. But, if you are doing more off road walks and want a pram that would also work for subsequent babies, I’d go for a baby jogger city mini or an out n about nipper instead of the yoyo. The yoyo really is a city pram.

JacksonLambsEatIvy · 17/02/2024 08:48

I wouldn’t buy a yoyo for a 2.5 year old. They’re expensive and not fantastic at transporting a big heavy toddler anyway. And it’s not like the basket makes up for anything.

I’d get a scooter and a lead to attach to it. You can get a wee seat attachment too.

We walk a lot (no car here) and I stopped using the babyzen yoyo entirely when DS was about 2.5. He’s been happily going to and from nursery via scooter (sometimes bike) since he was 2.

Someone else mentioned a scooter to me but I don't see how it would work. Son is quite small and only just fits his balance bike with the seat at the lowest setting that we got for his birthday. So he's just stared learning to ride shuffle about on that.

Before that it was a scuttlebug. But after so long on either of these things he's as tired as he would be walking. Especially if the walk was to the park to play on the bike for a couple of hours already.

I can see the bike/scooter being good as he gets older but at the moment it's not a solution to tired legs.

I loathe it. Flimsy, can't cope with kerbs, not intuitive to fold, hood is next to useless. I'd get a cheaper umbrella stroller any day over it. Silver cross zest is awesome. And much better for young babies if you're looking to have any more DC.

Seahawk80 · 17/02/2024 09:10

I had my sisters old yo-yo for my second (had a bee for my first and sold it as had a big gap). I loved it but last week the frame snapped - no shade on the yoyo it was 10 years old and had done 4 kids. My son is now just over 2 and I couldn't justify buying a new one for the use we will get and even second had they go for around £200. I think if you plan to have more children and live in a city it could be worth it. However I got the Phil and teds go for £80 last week online as I didn't want to spend over £100 and so far it's been great. It actually has a bit more room for a toddler than the yoyo and the footprint is very similar. Plus the brake easier to access and the basket better. So could be worth a look if you just need something to see you through.

Greyscale1 · 17/02/2024 09:16

We have the sliver cross clic and really get on well with it

Scooter with a pull lead and seat is a solution to tired legs. Or even without a seat, still a solution to tired legs. Not a solution if they need to nap though obviously!

MariaVT65 · 17/02/2024 09:38

We just got a cheap light John Lewis stroller

I second the City Jogger Mini. It’s our second pushchair for nursery runs and travel and it’s very underrated as a pushchair. Runs much more smooth and steady than other lightweight ones. My almost 3 year old rarely goes in anymore, but still works fine for him when he does.

Kicknroll 3 Wheel Kids Scooter, Adjustable Folding Kick Scooter for Kids Ages 4-7 Girls & Boys with Flashing Light Up LED Wheels, Lean to Steer Tech https://amzn.eu/d/87nGTqV

These scooters are awesome! They fold in half and have a flip down seat for tired legs. Recommend getting a scooter leash for it too, then you can pull it along when your dc is on it, but also you can loop the handle of the leash over the back wheel and use as a shoulder strap when the scooter is folded to keep hands free if needed. I wouldn't want to be investing in a pushchair at 2.5.

SpaceChocolatel · 17/02/2024 09:46

Love ours, it folds down so small, takes up badly any space in the boot and quick and easy to fold down/ unfold. I think they keep their value fairly well for re-selling. I wouldn't use it off road though, it's a town pram. We use it for our 1 year old mainly, but 3 year old has used it on occasion/taken a nap in it when very tired. It would last the toddler years I should think.

Looks fab, but we still need a pushchair as we walk a lot, sometimes out all day. So need something with a rain cover and that he can sleep in. I'm sick of pushing the heavy oyster 3 pram about.

Need something more robust than a rickety umbrella pushchair too.

Love ours - had it since dd was a newborn and still going strong at 3.5 (she is pretty light though). Can fold/unfold one handed - fits anywhere and very light.

You definitely don't want a yo-yo then! They're definitely more rickety than an umbrella fold. It's just the nature of being super lightweight I think.

SylvanianAddict · 17/02/2024 11:57

Why don't you have a look at Ebay, Vinted and Gumtree for second-hand ones if you have your heart set on it? They look gorgeous and if you're anything like me, you will regret getting something you don't want just because it was cheaper, then it's like throwing money away. That's how I am with my second buggy, which is a GB Pockit - the lightest and smallest buggy ever, that can fit into overhead compartments on airlines - I like it and I like my usual Bugaboo lynx too - but in my heart of hearts, I would have bought the YoYo Babyzen or Bugaboo Bee6 - which are compact and cute both as a main buggy and a travel buggy.

Oh really? That would drive me mad. Going to have a look at some of the other recommendations here. Think I need to go to a shop and actually get a feel for some

The bloody wheels are useless.

I live in a city, and still the thing was performing like a really bad supermarket trolley with just 2 years of use.
