Hi All,
My daughter is 8month old and has had constant nappy rash which gets very sore. After going through every make of disposable nappies it hasnt cleared up. We have noticed that when her nappy is off it starts to go. My HV says she is allergic to disposables so i'm looking into outting her in cloth nappies. I don't know the first thing about though... Can anyone help Please!!?? xxxx

Have you tried a bit of canesten on it?

My DD gets recurrent nappy rash. It was only after seeing the GP recently that he said it might be fungal. Two days after applying canesten, it was all gone. It might be clearing up out of nappies as it's getting a bit of air to it. My HV didn't spot it, but the GP did.

cloth nappies, I would use pocket nappies as they are easier to out on a wriggly crawler than 2 part systems. Different fits suit different babies though. My DD is very chunky of thigh and I like fuzzibunz, bumgenius and green kids.

Talk to flame (bumfluff nappies) and nappyzone. Both lovely MNers who advertise in the small business ads in classified and who will give you lots of advice

Ok Thanks. She's had every cream on and the GP has checked and everything.

You'll get lots of conflicting advice on here because there is no one cloth nappy that will suit everyone. As an example, I wouldn't recommend using pocket nappies as your first experoence with cloth - they are great when they work but can prone to leaking. You may need to try out quite a few before you find one that suits. A far better system IMO would be a two part system consisting of a shaped cloth nappy and a waterproof wrap. Motherease airflow wraps tend to suit pretty much everyone and are bombproof, the type of cloth nappy you put under it is down to what you want from it - quick drying, very absorbant, thin fitting etc etc.

Before you start splashing out I would recommend you find out if you have a local nappy project which offers a trial kit service. Have a look at this link www.realnappycampaign.com/ - at the bottom right there is a link to a search engine to find nappy advisors local to you. Typically a trial kit service will give you a good selection of nappies to try out at home for a small fee - most do not sell nappies so there is no pressure on that front. Alternatively look for a local Lollipop advisor - they offer a similar service but also sell nappies.

Also, bear in mind your local council might offer a financial incentive to buy your nappies - vouchers, interest free loans etc and there are also places where you can find second hand nappies if you want to try a few cheaply.

That said, there are plenty of online advisors - although if I were you I'd stick with someone like Flame or Nappyzone who have plenty of happy customers.
