2yo weight?

Last time I weighed my 25mo DS he was 30lb, he seems to be (tried to measure him when he’s standing still which isn’t long haha!) 86-87cm!

When I’ve looked at charts and tried to compare this it seems like he’ll be out of proportion and I’m Really worried for the 2 years review with the HV now because they’ll start calling him overweight?

hes very active. He doesn’t go in a pram , he walks everywhere (he is amazing at holding our hand the whole time and staying close)

he doesn’t overeat he has normal portions and we don’t have biscuits / sweets / crisp / chocolate in our. House. He does have the odd treat but treats we don’t have chocolate as the norm etc

Am I just panicking over nothing ? What was your 2yo weight ??

Size wise he’s in 2/3 clothing, 18-24 month t shirts and sweatshirts but if buying a set I have to get 2-3 as he has long legs so needs them long!

some 2/3 is still big on him

What centile was he born on? What centile is he on now?

UpUpUpU · 15/02/2024 19:35

My son was 20kg at 2, 105cm and very chubby!
He is now 5.5, 22kg and 122cm. He is skinny as a rake but eats like a horse, They do even out, promise

A 25 month old needs no food treats at all so cut all the shit out entirely. A treat at that age is extra stories, time on the swings and playing Duplo wit you for longer etc!

As long as you provide lots of opportunities for physical activity and no sugary junk then you can't go wrong.

They're so different so giving my stats doesn't really compare.

nadiaaz · 15/02/2024 19:49

@Justkeepswimmingswimming born on 91st or 95th - he was born big (9lb 3oz 3 days early!)

@Isthisexpected I mean I agree with this to an extent but surely on occasions like his birthday a small slice of cake isn’t bad? On Christmas a chocolate from the heroes tub?

@UpUpUpU thank you. I was wondering if my DS is due to grow. Few cm but I wondered about this as he is very active and eats appropriate for age he does have a good appetite but I put it down to if we keep him active and he goes to nursery he’ll obviously eat well due to this

Of course the odd treat is fine. Nobody became obese from the odd miniature hero.

what are his portion sizes like and does he drink a lot of milk?

Rosiiee · 15/02/2024 19:54

We just had our 24 months HV check. He’s 87cm and 11kg. We’re in 12-18mths clothing- his waist is absolutely tiny which makes it hard to find pants! We were in the 5th percentile at the last check so we were happy to move up.

There’s no such thing as overweight at this age I don’t think. As long as he’s eating a balanced diet then you’re fine. Kids come in all sizes and it depends on so many things like genetics and birth weight etc.

nadiaaz · 15/02/2024 19:55

Portion sizes are appropriate for his age I’d say , breakfast is 1 weetabix with semi skimmed milk

meal wise he has a small portion i dint know how to describe it but I know it’s small and enough

only has some semi skimmed milk (about 150ml) pre bed time

So yes he is a bit out of proportion weight to height wise. I expect he is due a grow. But I would monitor his growth for a while to make sure he doesn’t become too much heavier without being taller.

2yo weight?

I'm not sure at 2, but she's 29lb at nearly 5 and 98cm. She is genuinely tiny, in size 2-3 clothes, and has a complicated medical history which probably contributes.

Boys do tend to be a bit heavier, and kids can often be quite chunky at this age but as they grow past toddlerhood (and get faster) their growth tends to tail off. I'd say to keep an eye on the snacks but otherwise just see where you are in a year. He doesn't sound that large by the clothes he is in.

nadiaaz · 15/02/2024 20:01

Yeah I weighed him when he was like 22mo and he’s stayed the same height and weight , so I’m assuming he’s due a spurt
height wise

its crazy cos like I say 18-24m top and some pants (but they come up short), 2/3 sizing but some 2/3 is big on him?? But again I assume he’s just due to grow height wise unless I’ve not measured right and he’s a cm or two taller

I also don’t like to give snacks unless he is hungry (didn’t eat a meal etc) but snacks I’ll give sre

raisins
bananas
oranges
blueberries/strawberries
grapes
baby wafers (the weaning ones that are about 16kcal)
sometimes low sugar yogurt (40kcal a pot)

At the same age my DD was 34lb and 92cm

Personally, I think you're over thinking it. As long as you aren't encouraging him to eat more than he wants, giving him appropriate portion sizes and giving him whole foods not ultra processed food then you can't go wrong

If he's walking everywhere and active for at least 3hrs a day (as per WHO guidelines) it's fine

I would really really forget about calories and look at the ingredients list

Greek yoghurt with a bit of honey would be better than those sweetened yoghurts and a homemade biscuit/shortbread is better than a baby water

nadiaaz · 15/02/2024 20:16

Yeah each meal is cooked , he doesn’t actually like fish fingers/nugget type foods (I was always paranoid about them so didn’t offer them lol)

and when we go to nursery he looks normal amongst his peers his age , he doesn’t look larger than them? Apart from height he’s one of the taller ones so maybe it’s a short class haha as I’m sure 86cm/87 is average or short for his age?

My 2 year olds have been consistently on the 20th percentile since birth and are currently at 12kg. All my HV was worried about at their 27 month check was that they were on the right trajectory which they are. If your little one has always been a higher percentile and still is on course I wouldn't worry
