Poorly child for over 2 weeks - advise or similar stories please

Hi everyone,
I know you are not doctors but I’m reaching out for any similar stories or potential advise
my little girl is 5 and for over 2 weeks she has had an on off temp and just not being herself
she hasn’t eaten a full meal during this time. And I can see she is loosing weight
she went to the doctors Tuesday and was sent to a&e with low oxygen and high temp / heart rate
they couldn’t hear anything on her chest and see anything obviously wrong and was reluctant to do bloods
they sent her for an Xray on her chest where they found a slight chest infection so we have antibiotics
she hasn’t picked up yet which I know we are only 2 days in and is still not eating
could it be an chest infection even though it took a xray to detect it? When she is so poorly I thought they may have found that straight away
any advise is welcome

Shocked they didn’t do a blood test. I think that is the next step.
The antibiotics will help if there is any bacterial infection, but there are so many other things it could be.

I’d definitely have pushed for bloods. She hasn’t picked up so honestly I’d take her back to A&E and tell them you’re still very worried and insist they do a blood test. Hope you get some reassurance soon.

They didn't suggest an inhaler too? Hopefully the antibiotics will shift the infection and then she will begin to feel and eat better but watch out for the signs of low oxygen.

I'd get an oxymetre asap - Argos/supermarkets/pharmacies have them. It will tell you if oxygen is low. Good to know the signs of respiratory distress in children too, should be lots of videos online but if stomach pulling in deeply or clavicle sucking in then get urgent medical help.

Doesn't sound like you've had a lot of support. Seek another Dr if you feel things are not right, you know her best.

Also, yes, could indeed be a chest infection they couldn't hear but could see.
