A&E - Safeguarding.

I’ve taken myself to a&e today, I’m 27 weeks pregnant and I’ve this morning thrown up blood.

When I mentioned in triage that I had another child, the nurse was like oh this is your second pregnancy, and then on his computer… he did some things then mumbled ‘safeguarding’.. my stomached dropped, like why?

He asked my daughters name and date of birth and then was like awwww she was a Covid baby, and we got talking.

I’m now worried they’ve safeguarded my child? There’s been never any concerns and she’s never been on the system or anything! - she’s never really been poorly and not attended a&e -touch wood-

I’ve got serious anxiety now. I didn’t ask.

Is that like a natural tick box if you declare you’ve got a dependent?

He said a lot of things on his computer like mumbling away, but this stood out to me. OBVIOUSLY!

A hospital will always check to see if anyone pregnant or with a child is known to safeguarding agencies, if they present for care.

He might have just been going through the mental checklist and mumbled "no safeguarding" but you didn't hear the first crucial word! I'd imagine that's the most likely option tbh. You'd know if there was safeguarding info from your first child! So it's unlikely he's actually seen a safeguarding concern on his computer that caused him to mumble the word.

Knowing if it is your first or second pregnancy is important for certain complications that arise after a first pregnancy even if that pregnancy ended. It's to do with antibodies.

If they are anything like me they will have been muttering their way through the form and at that point they scrolled past the safeguarding section. They will have asked more questions about your child if they were concerned. Things like HV and any ss contact for example.

DD is a regular at our Walk in Centre. We've taken her many times with different injuries and never had SS involvement.

Asking if you have any agencies involved is fairly normal. Like others have said though, they could just be reading the prompts on the screen. I doubt very much if it means anything.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

This in spades, OP!
