Hi

my son is 1 year old and we have tried brushing his teeth but he does not like it. Any tips?

also he has a bottle before bed and falls asleep, ideally you would brush after this bottle but that would wake him so do people brush before this last bottle? Also do you brush their teeth in morning too? I’m trying to do both but causing screaming each time!

i have a baby tooth brush and let him hold it to get used to it

I have to sing the Miss Rachel 'brush your teeth' song to get my 15 mo to brush his 😂
Yes definitely morning and night. You're supposed to do it for 2 mins each time but like hell that is happening with a one year old so definitely do twice a day. Ideally after the bottle at night as you know. However interestingly I took my son to the dentist last month for the first time and she suggested as absolute worse case scenario of you cannot get a toothbrush in the mouth after the last bottle then wet a Muslin and run that around the teeth. Basically do all you can to get that milk off their teeth.

Thank you

he does like miss rachel so I’m going to find that song!!! Interesting about the muslin, I actually have some dental wipes for babies which I never used so might give them a go!

It's goes something like... When you wake up in the morning it's a quarter after one, you just gotta have a bit of fun you brush your teeth.... 😂 It's the lady with the guitar that sings it. My God we lose our minds as mum's don't we!

Ohh I didn't even know they existed I might have to find some. My son loves to fall asleep with a bottle.

When my daughter was just turned one, she sat on our laps and we would sing a sing whilst brushing. I had my arm wrapped round her holding the arm furthest from me. Her other arm was against my body and then I held the toothbrush. I would brush for a bit (ideally 2 mins) and then let her have a go. It was also around this age we switched her last bottle before bed to before brushing her teeth.

Now she's nearly 2 and she can pick a tooth brushing video from YouTube to watch (Peppa Pig, baby shark etc) or she likes standing in front of a low mirror and doing cheesy grins whilst I brush Grin
