Help, 6 month old not taking to puree?

I’m looking for some advice, this is my second child and I’m really struggling with weaning. My first baby loved her puree and baby lead weaning and it was a breeze but this time it is a struggle.

She just won’t take to puree, I’ve tried all different types of fruit, veg and porridge but she won’t have any of it. She clamps her mouth shut so it is near on possible to get any in her mouth, and what ever does go in her mouth she spits straight back out. I pretty much give up after 2-3 spoon fulls as she will usually start to cry.

Has anyone got any advice?

I had this with my first OP I decided to go with the BLW. I just gave her little pieces/sticks of fruit/veg sat with her and let her discover it herself . She did take a while (couple of months) for me to feel like she was really eating anything significant.
I also found once she got use to picking food up and putting it in her mouth I would load spoons with porridge etc and she soon started to pick it up nd some would end up her in mouth.

Easy said than done but try not to stress.

Just try to wait, keep offering but no pressure. Eventually (maybe even a few months) they’ll take it

Just give her chunks of solid food instead. It’ll all work out.

Thank you! I’m definitely going to give BLW a go and see if she’ll take to that!

With DD1 I would give her veg, say broccoli. And give a cooked piece of broccoli and a puree together. She would always have a bit of a play with them, different textures, etc and usually tried both

She's only 6 months. Remember, food before 1 is just for fun. My DS has little to no interest when I first started weaning him - milk should still be their main nutrition source at that age.

My DD is very similar, she’s seven months on Sunday and isn’t really taking to solids. All I can do is keep offering.

Mine never took to purees, sadly. Even now he's 2.5y he won't touch anything vaguely wet / soggy, which is annoying as we make a lot of stews. He also didn't like us feeding him so he took the lead and we just gave him finger foods, cut appropriately for his age. We kept offering the purees alongside but he's never taken to them.

One thing he loves are baked 'squares'. Blend a can of lentils/beans, three eggs, add a bit of flour, olive oil, and spices/veg/cheese, and bake.

My didn't eat a single mouthful of food for the first 3 weeks of weaning. Then only if there was spinach in the food.
She didn't engage with weaning until she was 13 months! Keep offering do varieties. We did purees on strips of toasted pittas as edible spoons.

She has a high chair that could convert to table and chairs and we had better success when the chair was on the floor with me sat next to her. I had to appear to be distracted and not playing attention to her. I sat at 45 Deg to her playing sudoku on my phone. She didn't realise I was watching her out the corner of my eye

She preferred big food. Our biggest success was about 8 months when she stole half a cucumber from the fridge and spent the day eating that. We had more success with half an apple rather than apple slices for example
