Hi,

I am a FTM with a lovely 12 day old baby girl, i've done everything I can to prevent baby getting nappy rash but the skin in her crack seems to be stained her poo colour, it wont come off with wipes (have mainly been using cotton wool unless a big explosion), and im wondering if anyone else has had this and if it is normal? I cant find much online.

Have you bathed her, given it a soak?

We have but only with warm water, no soaps or oils or anything.

It is not just her normal skin colour?

I guess it could be but it seems a bit yellowy to me, same as her 💩

Did she have any jaundice?

I have a 5 week old. I hold the wipe on the skin and it all comes off eventually. Could it be dry skin that has stained?

I always pat her fully dry before putting a nappy on to prevent rash. And change often. Hope that helps.

Smother it in coconut oil and then wipe.

That usually gets rid of any staining / sticky bits.

Ditch the wipes and go for cloth.
Cheeky wipes are the brand leader but there are also muslinZ which are a bit bigger and the nappy lady has some with fleece on one side and Terry cloth on the other side which are brilliant!
Disposable wipes are absolutely useless in my experience. Explosive poos that would take 2 occasions 3 cloth wipes would take about 10 disposables. After 3 years ours are still in very good condition!

I second the use of cloth wipes. I used face washers ( one colour for bum wipes and other face washers for wiping faces would be a different colour to be able to keep them completely separate). I would wet the washer with warm water and squeeze out the excess water right before I was about to change baby’s nappy.
