Hi there,
My DD will be 9 months old when we take her on her first abroad holiday this July. We're going to Kos on an all inclusive holiday, just me, DH and DD. Just wondering if anybody has any tips or recommendations on what to bring to make the trip easier airport wise and whilst we're there? She's my first child so have never travelled with a little one before, worried about being prepared for the heat and logistics flying wise. Any advice welcome!

We took our 9mo on an all inclusive this summer and it was great.

I'd try and keep them awake at the airport, then aim for a carrier nap on the plane. Breast/bottle feeding helps for take off and landing.

Check that your transfer taxi/bus has a car seat or that you can fit yours in ahead of time.

We also bought a cheap travel pushchair that was a lifesaver when moving around the hotel.

Enjoy your holiday!

@irw thank you! Good tip about the travel pushchair.

A few tips

  • Do a boots order to collect in terminal for milk (if formula fed) and baby food/snacks. These are good for plane as well as if nothing suitable in the hotel. Your little one will be weaning so need to have stuff they can eat whilst away or that can be mashed etc (depending on what type of weaning and how baby is doing will determine this nearer the time).
  • Plane feed or give dummy on take off to help ear pressure.
  • Plane have some new small toys to keep occupied and pull a new one out every 20 mins or so. But I'd try to get them to nap for some of the flight.
  • Take a sling onto the plane to carry baby onto and off the plane. Also useful for baby to sleep in and keep hands free.
  • Think about sterilising. I've only gone self catering with children so had microwave to use sterliser bags. But can take sterliser tablets.
  • Water- obviously give bottled not tap water but beware of sodium level- some bottled waters too high.
  • I buy nappies when away and just take enough to last the first day as it saves luggage and you can get it all there.
  • If you don't already take baby swimming a bit before so you know what swim aid they need. I'm guessing you will want to spend lots of time in the pool. It took a lot of trial and error and money to find a swim and that suited my daughters.
  • I take reusable swim nappy, saves taking lots. Than can just rinse out and reuse.
  • Pushchair sun cover is good for naps.
  • Check what bedding is provided for baby. Lots of place expect you to bring sheets and bedding for cots.

Ideally breastfeed
AI is brilliant when weaning if you do normal food and finger foods as you can really try your daughter out on loads of different things
Disposable bibs
Take swim nappies and a full body UV swimsuit to protect skin get a sun brolly and a cheap buggy
Take calpol
Baby carrier for the airport

You can also just take formula and baby food in carry on, it's allowed through security as long as you have the baby with you!
