8 week old Rota virus vaccine side effects

Hi so 2 weeks coming up this Thursday my little boy had his vaccine and for the majority of the time he’s been experiencing some bad wind and it doesn’t seem to be stopping. He hasn’t so much had loads of explosive nappies but has been pooing twice a day since, it used to be every other day he would poo (formula fed). I’m half contemplating whether to reject the second dose, is this normal or not? If I get the second dose will his body handle it better? I don’t want to upset him again if it improves by the time it’s his 12 week jabs

It takes about 2 weeks to pass through his body so some sort of diarrhoea/extra pooing is to be expected. Should end soon!

My DS has just had his second dose of this and was OK for the first one but has had a horrible upset stomach for the second one with lots of trapped wind. Lasted maybe 4 days but seems to be over it now thankfully. From what I remember DD had no real side effects from it when she had it a couple of years ago. Your DS may be OK with the second dose but obviously is completely up to you. My thinking was I'd prefer him to have a bit of an upset tummy for a few days then catch the bug when he's a bit older.

Hi thanks for the responses I think I just wanted some confirmation really that it is probably that and it’s normal! He’s not been awful just seems to have dragged on for a long time but I didn’t know it stayed in their bodies for 2 weeks, hopefully it ends soon! I probably will opt to have the next dose as you’d think if his bodies reacted to it the first time hopefully it won’t react as drastically the second time, I would rather him not catch it and be severely dehydrated from it!

Hi, how long did this last for you? Did it gradually get better or did it just stop?

My little man had his vaccinations last Wednesday (3rd April) and is currently the same, writhing and squirming, kicking his legs, generally uncomfortable and sounds in pain. Pretty much every time I pick him up he burps and he seems to feel better for an hour after a poo.

Took him to the doctor's yesterday and they dismissed it as colic, but it only started about 3 days after his vaccinations and he isn't constantly crying, mainly groaning with pain.

He's gone from sleeping through quietly to thrashing his legs around and groaning in his sleep.

Surely this can't go on much longer. I hate seeing him like this. I want my smiley happy baby back!

@NatiBarden97

We ended up getting some optibac probiotic drops to put in his milk and I think they helped but I do think part of it is their digestive systems are very immature and that live vaccine just aggravates it but I definitely would say get some of the drops, it might help replenish anything the bug might deplete? He doesn’t squirm or anything now it all seemed to settle just after he was 3 months old, he’s now 4.5ish months old and he’s happy, not in any pain, no wind trouble or anything like that! The second one did give him worse poos but only for a few days because he actually swallowed the lot of the liquid but the side effects were no where near as bad! Hopefully it resolves for you but it does get better
