Magnetic tiles

What brands of magnetic tiles do people recommend? For a 3 year old if that makes any difference. I love the look of connetix but they are so expensive wondering if any of the cheaper ones are just as good

We invested in a lot of connetix for my 2 year old at Christmas and it has been played with most days. It gets used with other toys- he especially likes when we make ramps and garages for his cars.

It's fun for adults to muck about with too. I'm all for toys that help make time on the playmat less mind-numbing!

I bought a box of Magna Tiles for my grandson as he plays with them at nursery and he loves them. They are excellent quality with strong magnets for building. However they are expensive and I would like to buy more but due to the cost I haven’t been able to. On reflection, I would buy a cheaper brand with larger amount of shapes

We have some of those desire delux from Amazon and honestly I think they are stronger and sturdier than the Magna tiles set ones.

We have a set from sunny auntie, and they are brilliant. Really sturdy, and come in a case for storage. As an adult there is something really satisfying about building with them!

Are the different makes compatible with each other?

I agree Connetix are fantastic but expensive. However, they are so open ended that they are the only toy that gets played with practically every day in our house. I like to think the price is justifiable because when you compare it to the costs of some less open ended toys these days there’s not much difference in price but the magnetic tiles will likely still be in use long after they’ve grown out of the other toy.

The quality and durability is great, I think we have had a few chipped ones but no major breakages. Connectix tend have a discount/ special offer on in autumn. The vehicle pack is good and then a pack with lots of squares- you can never have enough squares! I would avoid the ball run though, we don’t use it much and in my opinion there are better alternatives on the market.

This has reminded me to consider investing in some decent ones - I got a pack from TK Maxx and they just collapse in on themselves constantly.

That’s helpful to know NewOrder. Thank you!

I suppose you get what you pay for.

We have 3x boxes of these - DD is now 4 and she’s played with them most days since she turned 2 (I got her first box for her 2nd birthday)
