Does the pram need a lock?

I have a second hand pram which isn't fancy.

I go to baby classes and usually easily accessible but one class I have to leave pram downstairs. I may also leave the pram at the nursery.

Is it necessary to buy a bike lock, one of the flexible ones? At the nursery there are other pushchairs left there.

What do you usually do?

No pram lock here and leave my buggy unsupervised regularly

I generally used a pram lock particularly when DS was a baby and having the pram stolen would have been a real bugger.

For nursery I brought a cheap second hand one off Marketplace, partly in case it’s stolen but it’s also outside all day. I’ll sell it on or give it away when I’m done with it. I’ve never locked my normal pram at baby classes but it’s usually been left indoors so didn’t need to worry.

I've never thought to do this. I don't know anyone who does this. Maybe depends where you live.

Friend had a bugaboo stolen from a church stay and play. The church weren't interested and refused to let her claim on their insurance. Get a lock.

I only ever locked the pushchair twice and both were at places that provided the lock. saying that though: If you have a decent one there are some that will think nothing of taking it.

I bought a pram lock for my first kid. In all honesty used it once, maybe twice. Remembering another thing, amongst all the chaos of getting a baby out of a buggy, wasn't happening.

Had a second hand beaten up pushchair with my second and its been wonderfully freeing not worrying about people taking it!

Unless it is really desirable I think it's unnecessary. And quite honestly you probably wouldn't remember to use it anyway.

Because it's not their property, so they can't claim on it. Also it's contents insurance and not what the insurance is for.

It's a second hand one and free. It's the world to me because they are expensive and this is a good quality one..... but it seems it won't be stolen. One play group I have to take it up some steps, so it's not easy to take away.... but also some bougie pushchairs as well lol

For the expensive pram / pushchair, I only used a bike lock when I attended a class that required us to leave them outside. Didn’t bother with the cheaper pushchair as didn’t think it would be appealing to anyone!

I lock my buggy at nursery as it’s left all day in a shelter accessible to general public / anyone walking past. Would rather not spend money to replace it. Don’t bother locking it anywhere else tho

bakewellbride · 09/02/2024 21:52

I think it depends on where you live op. I live in a small, friendly seaside town where I feel confident risking it. I used to live in London and if I still lived there now I'd lock it every time. You need to think about your area and decide.

karlykorn · 09/02/2024 22:54

I live in central London and I've never seen anyone lock their buggy here. Seems odd when you think about it, as people spend so much money on them. I have to park my buggy in an outdoor, unmonitored area for 2 of my weekly activities. There's just never been a problem. I'd feel a bit self-conscious locking it as I'd look a bit paranoid I think.
