8mo today and still not rolling

DD turned 8 months today and has still not rolled at all, she can't stand tummy time and strains every time she is on her front. All of my NCT friends babies are rolling and have been for a while and now starting to crawl. It's so disheartening when we are in classes and she is the only one that isn't moving about. Should I be worried, I am wondering whether this warrants a call to the health visitor?

My LO is 7.5 months and similar so following with interest! He can roll from his tummy onto his back, but he will just roll onto his back the minute I put him on his front 🙈
Hes still not steady at sitting without support and I’m trying to be chill about it all, but it’s hard not to compare him!
My mum told me that I never crawled, I sat, bum shuffled, then stood and walked but not for a long time. She said to enjoy a stationary baby as once he does get moving it gets a lot more tiring 😂

My 17 month old never rolled. Still not that keen on it now. She crawled late and has only just started walking but is absolutely fine. Don't worry!

Not rolling in itself isn’t a problem if they’re demonstrating strength in other areas, for example sitting or pushing up onto their hands like a seal. Can she do either of those things? DD rolled once then never bothered again, but was sitting up without support by about 7 months and pulled to stand at 10.

Not necessarily a worry, but I would try and encourage tummy time. What would they do if they had something in front of them ever so slightly out of reach? Would they attempt to get it in anyway?

I am a childminder, I am currently looking after an 8 month old who is pulling herself up, and a 14 month old who will only bum shuffle and shows no interest in trying to get on to feet at all. They are all different and have their own strengths. I would only be concerned if she seems in discomfort or unable to support their own neck. I assume she can sit unsupported?

@Naptrappedmummy yes she is sitting up really well unaided, but not yet pushing up. thanks for sharing your experience :)

@EddieHoweBlackandWhiteArmy she just strains when she is on her tummy and then eventually will start crying so I think she just finds it uncomfortable as she can't push up on her arms, no matter how many times I encourage her to use them for support, she just flaps them to the side like a penguin.

My DS didn't roll until he learnt to crawl at 8.5 months. We gave him plenty of tummy time but he just didn't see the point in rolling before then.
He then crawled, rolled both ways & pulled up to stand between 8.5 and 12 months and was walking not long afterwards.

My oldest never rolled. When he was about six I made him do a pencil roll to put my mind at rest he could do it 😁

if she’s balanced and has strength in other ways I wouldn’t worry

DD rolled for the first time on her first birthday. Bum shuffled at 16 months, crawled at 19 months, finally walked at 21 months. Nothing wrong, history taking her time.

Thanks everyone it has definitely reassured me that it can be normal at this age not to roll. Hoping she doesn't take as long to walk, although everyone keeps telling me to enjoy the lack of movement whilst it lasts.

My dd didn’t roll, didn’t crawl until 10 months but was walking fine at 11 months!!
