Is it only me who are so anal about what films my children watch?

Inspired by other threads, I thought I'd start my own. I am really suprised by the type of tv-programmes and films some parents let their small children watch. They claim their children are not easily scared and its fine to watch this. I am weary of both fast moving and scary images for my children. I also think there are so many things small children just won't understand until a certain age. For example, I would not let my 6 year-old watch Harry Potter mainly because I think if he waits a few years he will get so much more out of it. I don't want to rush them into all the wonderful films and stories they will enjoy much more if they wait (I think).

Now I am wondering, are some children really more easily scared? Yes, I guess to a certain extent they are, but I am also thinking that they build up a certain tolerance to things they see. In my eyes this is not a good thing at all.

I want my children to keep their innocence. I want my 3 year-old to be scared by images in power rangers and instead watch bob the builder and postman pat who I think are programmes for his age group.

Am I the only one?

I haven't made any assumptions on your family-life Kerrymum. I am not debating YOU on this thread tbh

Definitely depends on your child. My DD loves the Lord of the Rings films. I think they are awful and totally unsuitable, she is 9. My DS is 13 and hates anything to do with horror or scary stuff just like me.

When he was younger, DS1 loved Postman Pat and bloody Little Bill and Blues Clues. When he reached about 6 he only ever wnated to watch football. Even now he rarely watches a DVD all the way through, will get bored and start to fidget in the cinema, and will only occasionally watch Jake and dross.
Ds2 onthe other hand has a very vivid imagination, and went from happily watching Balamory and Tweenies to Scooby Doo. He will sit totally engrossed in a film, or TV. He ahs seen all teh Pirates and Harry potter films (after DH and I watched them first), he also though loves Toy Story, Peter Pan,a and Jungle Book. He gets so abosrbed in whatever it is he's watching. He will then play with his toys and "act out" scenes from whicheve rfilm he has watched. So he is currently acting out Harry potter, with a HP figurine, a daphne toy as Hermione and A Luke Skywalker asRon!
A lot of their friends though get to watch 15 and 18 films and PS2 games.
