— refusing point blank to wee. holding it for hours on end until eventually weeing themselves/having to pin her down on the toilet until she gives in (holding for over 12 hours otherwise)

  • not drinking much and barely eating
  • random screams and hysterical shouting saying bum hurts/stings/itchy (can’t work out if she means vagina or bum as she’s 2 and just pointing to a general area when i ask)
  • saying tummy hurts
  • 2 days into antibiotics and getting worse
worried about my 2 year old basically r.e. above she’s on trimith-something(??) antibiotic and she’s not seeming any better whereas it says she should by now nevermind seeming worse? took her to the gp again today who fixated on the fact that she had a high fever and tonsillitis two weeks ago and said if she didn’t have a fever now the abx must be kicking in even though i specified she’s never had a fever with the uti, that was separate with tonsillitis over a week apart

My girl is 3 and has had a UTI 3 or 4 times this year. Complaining of itchy/sore bits, 'hurting wee', tummy ache and fever. Each time given trimethoprim and has improved within a day or two at most.

Did they take a pee sample last time you went to the GP? They should check that it's not spread to kidneys, but I think if that were the case she'd have a fever and be really poorly.

It could be just that she's scared about peeing if it has been painful recently? It's important to flush it out by drinking and peeing as much as possible after a UTI, can you offer her any drinks she particularly loves? Any way you can think of to get her peeing normally again. My Dr even said to encourage her to go in the bath if it's more comfortable.

You could also try some types of feminine wipes. You can get some that are soothing and will help kill off any lingering infection. But make sure you don't get perfumed ones that might sting and make it worse. My pharmacist recommended some for us last time. Hope you get it sorted!
