Would you take your toddler to GP in this scenario?

Toddler first developed fever Sat afternoon. Fever lasted 2 days. Now has cough, sniffles, drool is pouring out of his face, he’s lost his voice, he cries as soon as food touches his tongue. He has blotchy red cheeks but no other rashes. He has only been able to sleep in 15-30 min stints for both naps and night time. He wakes up very distressed. He was lethargic with the fever but once the fever passed and he was on nurofen and Calpol alternated, he seemed mainly ok. Symptoms have been very similar to when he had hand foot and mouth but he’s seemed more unwell and doesn’t have the spots this time?

But today (day 4) he’s been different. He’s been very lethargic all day despite no fever and he has just wanted to sleep constantly, however has struggled to. He’s hardly eaten (which is typical when he’s sick so that’s fine) but is now also struggling to drink. He went 6 hours before having a wet nappy today and it’s been dry again since up until bed.

He just doesn’t seem himself, particularly in regards to how little he’s wanted to play and how much he has wanted to sleep. We’ve had a lot of illnesses but this has hit him the hardest, whatever it is. I don’t know if I should take him to GP or if they’ll likely just say “viral, give him fluids etc etc”. What would you do?

I think as he’s getting worse instead of better yes I would I would call tonight for him to be seen. He’s lethargic, low on fluids and not passing urine. Does he have a low temp at all?

encourage oral fluids - we used to do like a pp suggested 5/10 ml every 5/10 mins of diluting juice with some sugar added. I would absolutely phone & take him for medical review he’s only small.

My baby had similar symptoms, her temp did come down slightly but I was concerned it was maybe her throat/tonsillitis so I called the GP. They saw her the same day and said it was viral but I felt so much better that she had been seen. I'd ring 111 for advice

@HVPRN He’s 18 months old. Yes I have a syringe and I did try syringing some water earlier but he’s developed a bit of a fear of syringes since this illness and having to get medicine into him so he fought me a lot and then spat it back out. I’ll try again tonight though if we stay home as maybe he’ll be more accepting when half asleep. How often would you say I should wake him for water tonight?

And yes he’s currently his first 4 molars so they’re definitely causing discomfort too.

@Icouldbehappy His breathing is fine. His cough only really bothers him when breastfeeding or lying down so I think it’s just due to congestion.

Have you called 111? They may have a wait so I would call asap to get in the queue.

Would he take an ice lolly?
