Hang covers for thumb sucking

Hi moms! My 4 month old just started sucking get thumb. It’s been helping her self sooth to fall back asleep at night. I usually put her in the onesies with the hand covers or occasionally in mittens but this doesn’t give her access to her thumb and she gets frustrated. Her hands get cold if they’re not covered. I can’t find any mittens with a thumb hole on the market. Any suggestions?

I wondered what you meant by “hang covers”. Assuming you’re in the UK and you have central heating. So long as her body is warm I wouldn’t worry about her hands.

Babies hands always get cold because their circulation is a bit pants when they’re little - it’s completely fine! Won’t cause her any harm to have a chilly hand.

Oops meant hand covers. Thanks!

I wouldn’t think thumb holes to be safe as if the material or threads get twisted round the thumb it can cut off circulation and can lead to the loss of the thumb. I remember seeing advice to carefully check mittens made of acrylic yarn because there is more likely to be loose threads and reading of a child who lost a finger in this way.
Will your wee one accept a dummy? I was brought up to regard them as not very nice but was advised to use one by the maternity hospital and learned of the benefits — My sister and I were thumb suckers and our teeth were affected, it was a hard habit to break (I can remember!). These weren’t a problem with my DC.
I threaded a loop narrow ribbon through the tops of their garments and leaving enough room to attach the dummy, knotted the sides of the loop together so baby couldn’t get a finger stuck. After a few months if the dummy fell out, even if asleep, the baby would manipulate the ribbon to replace the dummy.
Good luck
