DD broke elbow at school

Hi guys my daughter broke her elbow at school last weeks we collected her and found her sat on her own crying and her hands shaking, in reception but no one sat with/next to her. we took her to hospital and found she had broken her elbow. When she explained the accident happened (child fell on her) it came up that a teacher came up to them apparently she was screaming in agony saying she had broken her arm! The teacher sent her to the school office with her friends (age 8) no adult present. she was so distressed she could not speak. The only first aid she was given was an ice pack. I honestly do not think this was dealt with correctly and my daughter is traumatised from not being believed and being ‘sssshed’ by the lady in reception. What are you thoughts?? Thank you x

Did the school phone you to collect her early? In my school, the first aider would have remained with her and the office would have phoned you to let you know you child was hurt and needed to go to a&e. I’m not sure what other first aid could be given other than an ice pack unfortunately.
Unfortunately, if there was no other adult in the class with the teacher then the teacher wouldn’t have been able to leave the class and would have had to send your child with another child, to the office. Not ideal but if there was no support assistants around and no phone in the room then there wasn’t much the teacher could do at the time.
I would contact the school and ask if there’s an accident form filled in.

Thank you for your reply. Yes they did call call half an hour after the incident. They tried to calm her down by colouring with her before they called me? I think I am more upset that she was left there sat on her own crying and being told to be quite with a broken bone 😢 I have requested a meeting with the school and will request the accident form x

Your poor dd. I fractured my elbow as an adult and it was incredibly painful.
I think the school were in the wrong here, she must clearly have been in pain.

Thank you. I know I feel terrible for her 😢😢😢

I wouldn't be happy with this.

Teacher should have sent a sensible student to find a staff member to accompany your daughter to a first aider, and you should have been phoned immediately.

I am a TA. I'm the only TA across a whole year group so understand there is often limited staff. I still wouldn't dream of sending an injured student off to find someone unsupervised with an injury like that. You can usually tell if a child is just being a bit dramatic and who is in agony, but I don't take the risk either way.

Thank you. I understand the lack of staff can be hard but it must have been obvious the amount of pain she was in 😭 I knew immediately it was bad as she was so pale and shaking x

@LadyWindsor23 How is your dd?

Both of my children have broken bones at school, I'd be furious if they had been left in that state.
