Baby spits up a lot at 9 months

Baby spits up a lot (milk & some solids meals) - has always done this but thought it would stop by now. Doesn't really drink much water (tried lots of different cups). GP says nothing obviously wrong as baby seems healthy and thriving, but it doesn't feel right (& the amount of washing is crazy). Intro'duced all allergens and don't think it's that, doesn't happen more/less depending on what's eaten. Any ideas?

Reflux?

Somethink · 03/02/2024 21:35

I've heard people say reflux is usually a symptom of something else though but not sure what that is, but maybe it is just simple reflux that'll go away with time!

Mine did this as he had a dairy allergy and we didn't realise!

Mine spat up so much, for so long. Socially awful, would spit up everywhere and tons, sometimes I had no trousers left as all in wash so had to wear DH's. I never knew if it was because I let her feed for too long, or too often. My tips are breastfeeding in waterproof trousers, but it did calm down when solids became more of diet. Never tested for allergies but doesn't have any and 10 years old now. Nothing worked (feeding in vertical position etc), only time.

@espresso14 how much time are we talking? Have tried everything and want to go back to GP but don't know what I want them to do really!

My son went through this. It was constant, at play groups, days out with the family, all the time at home, nothing I did worked (moved to dairy-free, changed diet). I was told by one dr he may have an undeveloped oesophagus as otherwise was healthy (good weight gain etc). It started to stop when he was around 1, definitely by 1 and a half. He is 3 now, it’s a distant memory but my god I still remember the amount of spit up (sometimes big amounts) I had to clean up daily.

Sorry, one thing I do remember having some impact is feeding smaller meals. Even if only half an hour apart x

My daughter when she was a baby used to just constantly be sick, she was never bothered by it but it came out of her mouth all the time. They said it was the muscle being weak and would get stronger as she got older and it did
