Red, angry skin on babies face

My babies face constantly looks like this! The chin looks so sore and it goes on his cheeks and around his eyes too. I use steroid cream (1% hydrocortisone) and it'll clear up but it comes back quickly and I feel uncomfortable continuously using steroids on him. GP just advises steroids! Has anyone managed to find a different way to help? It looks so sore.

Poor thing, that does look sore! Do you use anything on his face in between flare ups? Has the GP prescribed any creams or emollients? If not, a lot of people have good results with Child's Farm or Aveeno (Child's Farm is our backup if DD2's prescribed cream is out of stock), but you have to use it a lot.

With the steroid, you may be stopping it too soon – you need to use it for a couple of days after the redness goes so that any deeper inflammation also has a chance to settle. Depending on how long you've used it for, you might also need to taper it down (so if it was once a day, go to every other day for a few days, before you stop altogether). Hydrocortisone is a mild steroid, though, so that might not be too big a factor.
