Tiny houdini

My baby can escape her maxi cosi. We had this with my older child, but later. We could explain things to him and worked through it.

The tiny houdini is so good with movement. She can climb, run, stick wee fingers where you just would not think of. She has been walking from 7 1/2 months.

She has worked out how to wriggle one arm free (no matter how tight the straps) , and then she uses the space to get the other out. Then she actually sucks in her wee tummy; pushes with her hands and feet, and squeezes out. It has happened twice, witnessed by my older child, who was freaking out.

She is strapped in as tight as I can get. I have been super lucky my older child told me what was going on. I don't want to drive alone with her. She is too wee for the next seat size and I am worried that would give her more room. I see straps to attach, etc, available, but then safety advice against them.

But then, secure is obviously better than crawling around the back seat. That is where I am worried might go. She is 13 months old and too wee to reason with.

If rear facing are the straps at or below the shoulders? May help if not

How about one of those seats with no belts/straps just the lap bar thing? Supposed to be better for their spines in a crash?
Also in the US additional chest clips/straps are seen as mandatory and over here they are seen as a killer.

Is she still in the baby seat or the rear facing toddler seat? Toddler seat will probably be better, as it has a five point harness rather than three point.

Maxi Cosi allegedly approve the use of five point plus, which is this one:

Here - I am not sure if the statement is still up to date as it was made in 2014, and doesn't seem to be on their FAQs any more, if it ever was. But anyway, ten years ago apparently Maxi Cosi did approve the use of this add on with their seats.

God I feel your pain, DS2 was this child, he did exactly the same with car seats/buggies, he could get his finger into the mechanism of the stair gates and release them, he was out of his cot by 1 as he could climb it. We had an extra chest strap on the car seat in the USA but were told it wasn't allowed here, the forward facing solutions we found in the end aren't allowed now, but you have my absolute sympathy as he was a nightmare.

Is handcuffing her an option?

Rummikub · 31/01/2024 22:34

We had this with dc 2. She would scarily wriggle out on the motorway. We ended up fashioning a chest strap so she couldn’t slip the straps off her shoulders.
