As a parent to small children - under 5, would you go along to a informal singing/music club in somebody's house?
Would basically involve joining in and singing songs, doing actions and a bit of a chat afterwards?
What do you reckon? Would you go or not? And if not why not?

(I am asking out of interest as I am thinking of starting something like this????? OMG am I mad?????)

I would!! I'd love to do it!! If it's in someone'shome ther would just be a sense of freindliness there, i'd think? Go for it!

bonniefromboot · 20/03/2008 20:34

I would go, it sounds like fun. Although I'm sure others would say it's not their cup of tea.

Depends. Are you charging?

bonniefromboot · 20/03/2008 20:35

No - maybe only a bit for a cup of tea or something. Not to pay to go tho...

Oh yes.

BoysOnToast · 20/03/2008 20:36

build it and they will come

Christywhisty · 20/03/2008 20:37

I took my son to something similar when he was about 1. It was a lovely informal little group, we only stopped going because she moved house. She used to let them strum her guitar at the end and DS remembered that for a long time after.

S1ur · 20/03/2008 20:37

Then yes, I'd try it out. Then I could nose about your house and come back here and start a thread

Christywhisty · 20/03/2008 20:39

just to add we did used to pay, but not much, but she did it for the money and but she had little ones of her own. She used to do private piano lessons etc as well.

We have a big music centre in my town that started from this sort of idea - couple hosted music sessions in their sitting room, it grew and grew, they moved to a larger house and eventually it got so big they had to buy separate premises. Now hosts individual and group music lessons for all ages, children's orchestras and baby singing sessions... give it a go, you never know what it might turn into!

Gemzooks · 20/03/2008 20:45

sounds great, I would definitely go.. go for it!

Desiderata · 20/03/2008 20:50

Oh, I don't think I would. It's all a bit Mary Hopkin for my taste

Go for it, though. You never know until you try!

Acinonyx · 21/03/2008 09:09

I have a friend who does this. It's been very popular and now she runs two groups from home. I've though about going but we're pretty busy already - and I think she's fully booked anyway!

dizzychixies · 21/03/2008 09:11

good for you, lovely idea I hope it all pans out

Littlefish · 21/03/2008 09:12

Yes, I used to go to one. It was incredibly popular. Half an hour of music/singing and then half an hour for coffee and chat. It was a great way to meet other mums. Always in a small group with all the children/babies being about the same age(about 6 children/babies I think).

The woman who ran it used to do about 4 groups a day, 4 days a week.

I really miss it - so much more sociable and friendly than a big group in a hall.

skidaddle · 21/03/2008 09:13

I would def go, sounds like a great idea

orangehead · 21/03/2008 09:14

Yes sounds a great idea

spiderbabymum · 21/03/2008 09:18

Think it sounds wonderful .
I have a 10 month old .....and i,ve been a bit surprised at the level of cringe factor that surrounds this sort of thing ....eg singing at toddlers group .
But fact is you are doing it for the kids ...they love it .
IMO it only takes one enthusiastic person ( ideally who can hold a tune ) ....and the other adults will follow .

I think its reasonable however for people NOT to want the group to visit their house and that has to be respected .

Poppychick · 21/03/2008 12:17

Wouldn't be my cup of tea but a good idea if you like that sort of thing!

Elkat · 21/03/2008 12:22

I think there is room for this sort of thing, but there are lots of chains already... but where I think your idea has a strength over the current chains is that with those sessions, you turn up, sing and leave again. What many mums want is the opportunity to socialise with other mums... but so often you can't because the next class is at the door, waiting to come in. So if you're doing it in your house, then it is going to be so much more friendly and relaxed, and a big bonus would be the opportunity for coffee and a chat afterwards, so that the mums will get something out of it too. That would be your USP, and I think a lot of mums would go for that, because there are a lot of isolated and lonely mums out there! HTh

but go for it, other seem to like idea

heronsfly · 21/03/2008 12:57

I would really have liked one of these when dcs were younger, but would have worried that all the other mums already knew each other.
