Hi does anyone know if the nhs uses lasers to remove baby posterior ties ? We had scissors release done privately 3 weeks ago but tongue still looks a bit indented at front and you can feel the tie under
we’d been doing the exercises she set

They used scissors at NHS Norwich

Scissors in West Sussex 2 years ago.

Scissors at NHS London. My son had a severe anterior tongue tie and it took months before his tongue finally stopped being heart shaped, as it developed in the womb it needed tiklme to grow while being free of the tie.

Both mine were done with scissors. One private and one NHS though

Scissors here all three times we had it done (on 2 children).

What the tongue looks like is only one thing they take into account. The tongues movements and function is also assessed. However as my daughter was struggling with feeding weeks later we had it revised as it had reformed. It didn't make much difference with latch but she is 3 now and no issues with eating or speech at all so was worth it in my opinion.

Scissors here, and that was by a surgeon in hospital as it was too thick to be cut by a midwife.

Mum of TT'd babies and BF supporter here. How is baby feeding now? Have you been to see a BF specialist for latch support? One thing I see a lot is that many mothers believe the tongue release is a magic bullet that will fix their baby and it's very much NOT the case for the majority. How old is your baby now?

Re the indent in the tip of the tongue - it's like a scar. My 12yo still has it having had his tongue released at under 1wo!

Hi he might have a narrow palate and not sure what the fix is for that so tongue tie might not fix everything

V high palates are common with a tie.

If you are breastfeeding I strongly recommend going to see a BF specialist, preferably an IBCLC, try to find a free drop in near you. I'm not sure how old your baby is, or if you are still having issues, but we find it takes at least 2 weeks for a baby to gain full tongue function, if not more, and it really does depend on the baby and mum learning optimal positioning and attachment.

Speaking from my own experience, it took me and DS a good month to learn together how to do this, despite him being only a few days old at the time of division. If the latch isn't quite right, you won't notice a difference.
