Skincare for babies?

DS1 is 5.5 months old and we still haven't used any skincare products on him. It seems fine so far apart from his cheeks looking slightly dry. Wonder if we should start applying some lotions or moisturiser? If so what kind of products do you use and recommend pls? Thanks!

I put vaseline on my boys cheeks in winter. More like a barrier to the cold.
I also used to use olive oil as a moisturiser at that age. Just a tiny amount goes a long way. Otherwise he be slipping right out my arms.

We used neals yard balm and aveeno moisturiser. Both gentle but moisturising.

We used to lather up DS1 in coconut oil after the bath on the recommendation of a dermatologist friend, DS2 unfortunately does not get such attention!

Extra virgin Coconut oil will be our choice once DD is old enough :) we have a few aveeno body/hair wash but coconut oil for moisture x

We got hydromol on prescription at that age but you can buy in on Amazon. We have just replaced our 125g tub after 3 y it goes a really long way. It's the best thing for my daughters skin. It's like a thicker vaseline

It's not recommended that you use food based products like oat or coconut until they have eaten them directly as it can induce allergies or show up allergies. My friends son had an oat allergy and it was only identified after alevano (sp?) caused a massive eczema flare up. On our baby massage course with our HV we were told to use vegetable oil for massage and our dietician/paediatrician encourage as few products on the skin as possible. We also only bath my daughter once a week as frequent bathing especially with products causes dry skin. I had massive skin issues until went to washing 1-2 ta week and I no longer use any shower gel. I was tested floor liver disease I was itching so much and it was all due to bath /shower products!

Thank you all for the replies!

@Superscientist thanks a lot for sharing your experience! I also remember seeing somewhere that it's better not to use any skincare products on babies but I can't find the sources now. We only bath him once a week with just warm water too, and so far so good.

People routinely put lotions on their children? Is this really a thing? I've only given mine a smear of vaseline round the lips when they've been chapped. Why is anyone moisturising their babies?
