6 year old birthday party ideas

Hi, my eldest DD is turning 6 soon, what kind of party did your children enjoy at that age? Last year we just had the typical soft play party. This year she mentioned wanting to go somewhere where she could pet bunnies 😂 So I thought about a party at a local farm that does small animal handling (like bunnies and guinea pigs) and large animal feeding. But is that a bit too “young” for a bunch of 6 year olds? It strikes me more as a toddler/younger kid party, but maybe I’m just out of touch!

Honestly mine would vote animals all day long, they are 16 & 10.

Generally the farm set ups have a range of activities that are age appropriate. The local one used to do making bread, pizza or bush craft. Have a chat with them and see what they offer.

My DC would love this.

Other ideas they loved at that age...still soft play, trampoline park (but i'm not a fan but they still go!), village hall parties. Basically, they love any party!

I think most 6 year old would still enjoy it and i wouldn't do it with children any younger as then you'd have more parents attending as well to pay for plus younger children can be rougher so cause more stress to the animals.

We had an entertainer to do games and disco for my daughters 6th. I've done crafts as well for children around that age

That sounds lovely!

I have 2 gaming obsessed boys so hired a gaming bus for their joint 6th/8th birthday but they played traditional party games after and all loved it!

It's your daughter's birthday, let her have the party she wants. The children are 6 not 16! My 6 year old despite loving gaming is still so young and would love this! So would the 8 year old tbh!

Thank you everyone! Guess I should have realised if my own kid loves the idea there’s a good chance the rest of the age group might too 🙈

Follow up question if I may: how far would you travel for a kids birthday party? The best places seem to be about a 25 minute drive, give or take a couple of minutes. Personally I would take my daughter to a party that far with no problem, but not sure if I’m the minority? 😅 Last year’s party we had a few last minute cancellations/no shows and she was quite upset about it so if the distance is likely to be an issue I’d rather find something else closer!

I think it probably depends on where you live as most things would probably be at least 20 minutes for us anyway so half an hour or so would be no problem

They grow up so quickly so the things that little ones still like while u can - for DD 6th we had a magician / science party and the kids loved all the party games and traditional party fun

My eldest recently turned 6 and had a soft play party. None of the kids seemed to find it babyish!l, they went bonkers! Other parties in the class so far this year have been village hall disco, gymnastics, trampolining. I can't imagine any of DCs class thinking animal petting was too young for them.

In terms of distance, I'd start muttering to myself if a party was more than about half an hours drive away (but wouldn't turn down the invite!)
