Weaning my ds & dd and although ds has done really well eating purees, lumpier food i am so scared to try BLW. I fear he would try and ram it all in his mouth quickly and choke. I have such a big fear of choking and i dont know how to move forward with his weaning and i feel like i am holding him back because of my fears. (He has his 2 bottom teeth and 1 top tooth the other is cutting through)Ds is a little different she doesnt seem to be enjoying weaning much and is still struggling with the puree only taking 4/5 small spoons at a time. Most of it she spits out then keeps her mouth closed and turns away. (She has her 2 bottom teeth the top are not cutting through yet) They are both FF and still consuming roughly 26oz day over the course of 4 feeds. I guess im just looking for some advice/tips/reassurance on how to move him on to the next stage. Thanks for reading

If you don't want to do BLW if it makes you feel uncomfortable then it is absolutely fine not to 😊 they can get nutrition out of purees and blended foods and it all helps with the eating process. It would be good to given them chunkier foods as they get older to help develop the chew or softer solid foods if you feel comfortable with that such as Minch, mash, cereals etc. I'm probably going to get slated here but the finger foods that come in packets like melty puffs etc really helped my child learn how to chew and hold foods and I knew they were safe and made to melt away if they god stuck somewhere! It gave me confidence to build up to solids.

If you do want to try it, I would recommend the solid starts app and Instagram page. This is great for how to prepare food based on babies age. The Instagram page also shows videos of the difference of gagging on a new texture (totally normal) and choking. I would recommend watching a video of this as I was a bit taken back by how aggressive gagging can look! Personally I did a mix of BLW (tea time when I had more time) and purees (lunches) and I have a one year old who is happy with either and doing well ☺️

I did an infant 1st aid course that specifically focussed on what to do if a baby/toddler starts choking and it boosted my confidence with weaning. It was advertised through a baby group I attended, maybe something similar would help you feel more confident?
