Help with stopping breastfeeding

Hope I'm in the right topic.
We've had a few biting incidents and today my DS has bitten through my nipple, breaking the skin and drawing blood. It's agony.
He's 7months old, we're down to 3-4 feeds per day and the rest formula and solids. He's a hungry big boy!
I can't face the thought of feeding on the bitten side and I'm ready to stop breastfeeding altogether. I'm just looking for advice on how best to do it as my daughter weaned naturally at a year old.
Should I keep pumping for a bit so I'm not going cold Turkey?
I'm so sad, the thought of him turning his head in and rooting and getting a bottle instead is breaking me, but I just can't do it any more. He has allergies and I want my life and my body back. My husband is great and does night feeds and baby has no problem taking the bottle. Any advice is welcomed!! Thank you.

Hiya, i'm a breastfeeding peer supporter. As your little one is only 7 months old, it would be advised that in order to avoid mastitis you would want to taper feeds/pumping sessions. So replace a feed with a bottle at a time over the course of a week or two or whatever feels comfortable for you. The national breastfeeding helpline are really helpful with questions like this so definitely think about giving them a call and discussing it with them. I hope it all goes well for you x

Thank you, I will get in touch with them. I'm just worried I will be made to feel guilty and persuaded to carry on as he's still so little :(

Ouch! Firstly, get plenty of air to the bite to help it heal. You poor thing.

I didn't wean at that age, but if he takes a bottle at least you know he won't be hungry.

I think pumping will help, but just do the minimum to relieve discomfort.

You absolutely will not be made to feel guilty, their job is to support women through all phases of infant feeding x

Thank you, hubby might get the wrong idea if I strip off Grin

I weaned at 8 months and did as advised above, swapping a feed for formula every few days.
Honestly don't feel guilty at all!

DS is 3 now and soooo healthy and fab!

Yes I did this too, my DC was completely onto formula by 10 months, so was just slightly older and probably on more solids then too. But he wasn't arsed about breastfeeding at all by then anyway and hardly drank anything from me so it was easy.
