I am looking for some advice, is it normal for a 5 year old to have tuna pasta for breakfast if that is what she is asking for? I am worried my cousin isn't getting the right foods to start the day. Thank you

Tuna pasta has carbs, omega 3, healthy fats. It's not what many would consider a breakfast meal but there's nothing wrong with it. Plus kids are often difficult with food so just getting them to eat anything is a win. I wouldn't be bothered if my 5 year old wanted tuna pasta for breakfast

Food is food, it's not any more or less nutritious if you eat it at 5pm or 9am. Definitely not what I would choose, but if it's the only thing the child will eat it's definitely better then nothing.

So what do you think your DN should eat for breakfast?

In many cultures a fish based breakfast is perfectly usual. Sounds healthy and not problematic.

climbershell · 24/01/2024 20:44

That sounds like a brilliant breakfast meal. Healthy cards, fats and protein

mynameiscalypso · 24/01/2024 20:46

I wish my 4 year old would have something as nutritious as that for breakfast. So many breakfast options are terrible and so full of sugar.

Snowdropsareontheirway · 24/01/2024 20:47

It is usual? - no. Is it healthy balanced meal? - yes. Much better than cereal.

TeachesOfPeaches · 24/01/2024 20:48

No, she needs a proper breakfast eg Frosties cereal with chocolate milk and a Diet Coke

scrivette · 24/01/2024 21:05

I think that's quite a good breakfast, it's filling and has protein in it and as long as your DN is happy to eat it I don't think there is an issue.

This is amazing reading all your comments, thank you so much!! I think I was worried as the school mentioned it when I picked her up this week but you are completely right with what you say ❤️

Well it's better than a bowl of cocopops.

Would you be worried if they said 'I had a bowl of cocopops for breakfast?'

Because the tuna is far FAR more healthy..

I think in the West we are too hung up on 'breakfast' foods as a category. Leftovers, savoury sandwich, pasta, just as long as it's relatively balanced
