Has anyone taken their child for their first vaccinations while they have a cough/cold? Will GP let her have them while ill?

My 11 week old is due her first round but she is unwell (caught something from her 2yr old brother in nursery who has since nearly shifted the virus)

they don’t normally do it when children are unwell normally ask you to reschedule

Payakan · 22/01/2024 20:40

Always reschedule if baby is poorly.

Asurpriseawaits · 22/01/2024 20:41

I was told as long as they didn’t have a temperature it was fine but worth ringing and checking

It won't be mmr at 11 weeks though. Just postpone by a week

Sidge · 22/01/2024 20:51

The only reason we wouldn’t give vaccines if is the baby has a fever. General coughs and colds don’t matter.

Are you in the UK? First vaccines should have been given at 8 weeks, and MMR isn’t given until age 1.

amispeakingintongues · 22/01/2024 20:59

Thanks for the responses.

Yes i'm in the UK. Totally forgot the first vaccinations are not MMR. Measles talk has got me anxious about her not having any of them yet so i'm not thinking straight! What am i meant to do to protect her until she's 1 ?!

She was technically 8 weeks over the Christmas/ NY and we were away from home at the time so have to reschedule.

Babies usually have adequate maternal antibodies until one.

Has your 2 year old had his first MMR age 1? That will protect her too.

That's reassuring.

Yes. Although we are in midlands not far from Birmingham measles hot spot and hear about kids still catching it regardless of vaccination so i was hoping to get her sorted so i can relax a bit. But mum brain

In some boroughs of London they offer MMR 2nd dose at 18months because of increased rates of measles. My DS had his then. If you are in a hotspot, your 2 year old might also be eligible for 2nd dose before the "usual" date (pre school boosters). Check with your GP if this service is available.

My daughter has had vaccinations with low grade colds. A snotty nose but not requiring any Calpol or similar to manage symptoms.
If unwell with a cold postpone. The first set contains the menB which might them feel unwell for a day so you don't really want that mixing with a bad cold.

Good to know. Thanks will avoid until she's better. Have a GP app today as her cough yesterday was horrendous

Hello, I really hope I will get some answers.
My son is 30 months old now and we still struggling with side effects after the one year old jabs. Straight away after the jab he was fine, no fever, just fine. After a week the leg where he had the MMr jab start to swallow really bad and he end up with antibiotics. The doctor said it was probably a reaction from the vaccine. After a couple of weeks everything was fine. The thing is every time he has a cold both legs start to become very itchy exactly in the are where he had the vaccine. It is so itchy that he scratches himself until he’s bleeding. It seems to be worst in winter because he’s catching a cold more often. The Gp told me just to use a cream e45 to hydrate the skin and that’s it. Tonight again scratch himself and told me that it’s hurting. Did anyone else had this reaction and how you manage it? Thank you.
