Baby carrying - damage to baby

Hello,

Thank you for reading my post. I am slightly anxious, I have been carrying my baby in a 360 omni carrier since she was 6 weeks, she is now 16 weeks. I have only just realised it has not been tight enough. I watched some YouTube’s and they seemed to say don’t have it too tight but also not too baggy. Anyway, I noticed her head didn’t seem supportive, she kept slipping down and when I bent down down she came away from my body. What damage could I have done? Could she have shaken baby syndrome from her head bouncing around, could I have damaged her development?

It's not pleasant, but you may feel more reassured if you watch a video of a simulation of shaking a baby. A doll is used, and you will see how hard a baby has to be shaken to be harmed. This will put your fear into perspective. Your baby will not have their development affected by your baby carrier.

How is your anxiety affecting you? Are you anxious often? x

If it's it's bit baggy they may have been uncomfortable. They probably would have complained if they were. I can't see that you can have dome any long term harm, especially if they were content whilein it

Please don't worry, there's no way you'll have done any damage. Sadly shaken baby syndrome is caused by really deliberate and forceful shaking so no way bouncing around a bit in a carrier would come close to that.

Aww hun you sound like a lovely mum, I can feel the worry coming from your post
Baby will be ok, you haven't done anything wrong don't worry, you have just been given a bit of a scare. Give baby a big cuddle and give yourself a break. Xx

Please put your mind at rest. This is nothing like the movement/force in shaken baby syndrome.

Your post reminded me that I fitting my first baby's sling a bit wrong for ages. I haven't thought of it in years probably. My baby was fine and yours is fine too, honestly.

TheShellBeach · 22/01/2024 22:56

I promise you that you haven't harmed your baby, OP.

The main risk with slings is about their position not being slumped so their airway is open - like with car seats. The safety rules have the acronym TICKS babyslingsafety.co.uk/ticks.pdf. A sling library can help your confidence with getting the fit right, it can be really tricky! You would know if your baby had been too uncomfortable and certainly if it had made them unwell. Babywearing has so many benefits for you both, I hope you carry (!) on enjoying it.
