When to take 15 month old to the doctor for a fever?

Hey guys. Since last night, my 15 month old DS developed a chesty cough. It’s not been too bad but he’s been coughing a few times an hour. This evening, he got a fever and he’s really warm. The thermometer broke so I don’t know what exactly his temperature is, but he’s been really upset and moody of course, and I can’t see him like this. 🥺 I’ve given him Calpol, he’s now asleep but he’s still warm. Also, he only napped for half an hour all day today which I think might also be why he’s been so upset and cranky, I don’t know but I feel like him not getting enough sleep during the day is one of the reasons why he has a fever. I hope he gets a good night’s sleep, poor guy keeps moaning in his sleep too because of his fever 😭 when should I take him to the doctor for his fever and cough? His cough has settled down now tbh, but he has a high temperature. Should I wait until morning and see how he is? Or should I call 111? I have no idea because he’s never really been ill before. I really do think it’s partly because he hasn’t slept during the day though (he slept for only 30 mins during the day and woke up at 2pm, then he just fell asleep at 8.45pm. Usually he takes around a 1.5-2 hour nap during the day). Any advice would be much appreciated guys

Keep pushing sips of water. Check he’s having regular wet nappies. Keep on with the paracetamol. Can he have Ibuprofen too?
Slightly lift the head of the cot.

How are the nappies?

There's a great app called baby check app that I use when I'm not sure. It's really for babies not toddlers, but it's useful anyway.

For a fever I'd treat at home unless it lasted longer than 3 days, if it went over a certain number (can never remember what this is, but it's on NHS website) or kept rising despite calpol/ibuprofen.

I'd take to GP on the fourth day of fever. It's done me well as a rule of thumb. If it's a cold it usually gets better by the third day. If it's still lingering it's probably some kind of infection.

I might take them earlier if they are truly miserable or seem to have a specific pain, like earache.

Thanks for the replies guys! He’s having regular wet and dirty nappies. His sleep is disturbed as he slept at like half 8 for an hour and a half (I guess that was his nap), now he’s awake and playful and in a much better mood even though he still does have a fever.

nappies are good, I wouldn’t go to the GP unless worrried about dehydration.

I alway check the NHS website when I’m not sure.

Don’t be afraid to give calpol or nurofen when they have a fever it will make them much more comfortable and therefore they will sleep better.
