Will my 13 year old EVER stop getting nits?

I seem to have been battling nits constantly for about 7 years! Used all the treatments, dry combed, wet combed, used conditioner blah blah blah but they just keep on coming. Did a really thorough treatment just a week ago. Combed tonight and she was riddled with massive ones. Is there anything that can be prescribed? Thanks!

Treat the best friend too? There must be a reason they’re coming back!

If you're finding adults after treating so recently then she's getting reinfected by someone else so until her head stops touching theirs she will not get rid of them.

Straightners are really good at frying the buggers and their eggs alive. I’d work that into the routine after the conditioner and combing. But surely she’s getting reinfected from somewhere. Best friend? Boyfriend? Is she sharing headwear anywhere IDK does she do horseriding and borrow a hat from the riding school or anything like that?

Who is she hanging around with? My DD had them constantly for a year and then they stopped the instant she wasn't in the same class as a particular child.

Follow this to get rid of them for good. It seems long winded but does work.

This was my thinking too. Unfortunately there is a girl at school - a friend, but not a best friend, who insists on lounging on her…and she freely admits she has nits and doesn’t treat them. Must be from her I guess. They are just so gross and my poor DD is so fed up with having them.

Thanks for the replies folks!

Also they say they can't live off people, they can! Make sure you check and wash everything her head touches when you treat her, and sheets, I've seen them wandering across sheets on a bed!

Straighteners were my secret weapon with my daughter, and I used to French plait her hair to go to school. Combing vaseline through the hair suffocates the little bastards and makes the eggs slide off, but you need to wash and wash and wash her hair afterwards to get rid of the grease.

If she's that upset tell her she has to keep away from the nitty friend if she ever wants to get rid of them. Can you talk to the nitty friends mum?

Oh god that’s rank! I’ve just told her they can’t live on her bedding - oops! It’s a new bed and she only has one set of bedding so I shall be buying a new set tonight. Blurgh - I really do hate the bastard things.

@Silverbirchtwo yeah I told her to get the girl to stay away. I don’t know the mum and at 13, DD would be MORTIFIED if I said anything to her mum. I’ve seen their house - I don’t think hygiene is their #1 priority…..

It really depends on other pupils. When my DDs were in school one parent never cleared their DD’s hair from nits.

I used vinegar and olive oil. Learned this in Latin America. The vinegar dissolves the glue that secures the eggs on hairs, the oil kills the adults.

Because the vinegar runs I mixed them, like you would for a salad dressing, use a towel to protect the eyes. Slather it into the hair and scalp, wrap in a towel for 30 mins. Then comb through with a nit comb. Repeat after 7 days. Keep checking and repeat if necessary.

Use cheap vinegar and either olive oil, cheap option, or coconut oil, both oils kill the adults.
