Centuries.

20mins ish. Change into pjs and do teeth, then we read a book to her for 10mins or so depending on lengths of chapters. Then kiss goodnight and she has ypto stories playing and thats it

peachgreen · 17/01/2024 19:10

About 45 minutes on a bath night (every second day) and maybe 25 otherwise? That’s bath, pyjamas, teeth, book, into bed.

A good hour here but we have a 2 & 4 year old and they spend a large amount of the time squabbling by that stage of the day.

I have a just turned 4 year old.

About 15 - 20 minutes on a normal evening, teeth, face, toilet, pj's and story etc.

On nights he has a bath it's probably about 45 minutes.

Favouritefruits · 17/01/2024 19:12

About 45mins, getting clothes off, teeth, bath, hair wash, getting dry, story after story, another wee, another kiss….. that’s my six year and 9 year old it’s been the same ever since they were little!

Grimmz · 17/01/2024 19:14

15-20 minutes??

I allow 1 hour for my 6 year old. I'm clearly being played 😂

DappledThings · 17/01/2024 19:18

About 90 minutes. Aged 6 and 7. I know it's ridiculous. It just stretches every single night with wanting one more thing, one more question, one more bit of play. And then shouting if I have the temerity to go downstairs while DD is still awake.

It's partly the both of them reading then bring read to as well. And it's the time of day they play together nicely the most so I don't mind it really.

AnotherCountryMummy · 17/01/2024 19:30

Probably 45 mins if he's not fucking around too much 🫣

weatherbell · 17/01/2024 19:40

Ummm. I'm touching 2 hours here most nights. 2 and 4 year old. It's exhausting. Please share tips!

What part takes so long?

Being no nonsense is pretty important and having a clear routine.

weatherbell · 17/01/2024 19:53

I try my best to be no nonsense but they're wild. They fight everything. But to be fair I often leave them a while in the bath so I could shorten than. But still...its ridiculous. I'd say the most difficult thing is convincing them to get undressed and into pjs.

roarrfeckingroar · 17/01/2024 19:56

30 - 60 min, depending on what time we start. Bed time is 7pm, sometimes a tad late but try to keep to it. Routine is bath with baby sister, including hair washing and teeth, followed by 3 books and a cuddle before sleep.

PetuniaTheWhale · 17/01/2024 22:19

About 20 minutes or so, for 5.5yo and almost 4yo on a non-bath night. Add 30 minutes on bath night, mostly because they like to play together in the bath once they're washed.

modgepodge · 17/01/2024 22:31

Bloody ages. At least an hour, more if bath. We do read 2 stories and she reads to me (reception age), and she has a snack. Sometimes the snack lasts longer than the stories and then I get pissy. Then she needs the loo, can’t find teddy, needs to say goodnight to daddy again etc etc…

takealettermsjones · 17/01/2024 22:45

Okay I get how normal bedtime lasts 20 mins. That I can do.

But how does adding the bath in only add 20 mins?? Please share this wisdom!!

Why would it take more than another 20 minutes? The bath is running whilst he plays or eats his tea so no need to wait for it. Hair wash and body wash takes 3 minutes tops and that leaves 15 minutes to play and once out it's a quick dry and into his PJs. If I left him in there much longer the water would be getting cold. Obviously it would take longer if I had to dry his hair etc but even then it would only be an extra 10 ish minutes.

AlltheFs · 18/01/2024 06:53

Well our bathroom is downstairs, but if you include the shower time rather than the time we go upstairs it is about 1.5 hours. We don’t rush though. Rushing winds her up and then she doesn’t sleep.

We don’t do shower every day either. But it’s usually shower about 6.30, which takes about 20 mins including doing her eczema cream and teeth. Then we need to dry her hair which takes forever as it’s so thick.

Inhalers, choosing morning clothes (no time in the morning and she insists on choosing herself!), 3 books, then chooses her Yoto card to listen to, 9 million cuddles and delay tactics. That takes at least 45 mins, more like 1hr. We switch light off at 8 ish.

Non shower nights we get ready for bed at 7 and lights off for 8ish.

InTheRainOnATrain · 18/01/2024 07:46

30 minutes for the 3YO (15 minute bath, 5 minutes for teeth and getting dressed, 10 minutes for stories)
6YO my involvement is almost nothing as she does it all herself including a shower, I pop up to read 1 chapter of her book and say goodnight which takes under 5 minutes

Maybe it's just my child but... First there's the baby wrangling while I run the bath. Can't leave baby unattended eating tea so I need to wait until after they're finished. The actual bath itself takes about 20 minutes. Then it's "time to get out" negotiations and then drying and putting cream on, choosing pyjamas, running round as a superhero with a towel cape, curly hair care... It's definitely more than an added 20 minutes in my house 😂

Itsthemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 18/01/2024 09:30

About 30-40 minutes depending on how long they want to play in the bath. Running the bath takes ten minutes and then 10-20 minutes to play. Out and into pjs plus teeth takes a few minutes. Then 5-10 minutes of reading depending on attention span

Sometimes I include the running time in bathtime and chuck them in an almost empty bath. They love playing with the water as it comes out of the taps and I whack up the heating so they’re not cold!

OopsieeDaisy · 18/01/2024 10:47

30-40 minutes depending on whether it’s bath night. That includes bath, PJs, story with drink of milk, teeth and into bed. DC is 18 months so whilst we don’t rush the bedtime routine, they haven’t learnt any delay tactics yet!

SnapdragonToadflax · 18/01/2024 11:06

An hour, but that's allowing time to wind down - there's no way he could go upstairs and be ready to go to sleep 20 minutes later. He's full of energy and needs a good dance party / jump on the bed before getting in the bath.

On no-bath days, maybe 45 minutes.
