Is there anything you can do to build immunity for nursery?

Inspired by another thread about nursery illness, I was wondering if there's anything you can do to build kids immunity to reduce the number of nursery illnesses?

DD (9 months) is starting nursery in a couple of months and I want to do anything I can to help her get less poorly.

We are already giving her a multi vitamin and taking her to soft play etc to expose to some germs. I'm not obsessive about germs, so happy for her to put balls from the ball pit etc in her mouth if it helps in the long run. She eats a good diet with lots of fruit and veggies. We get outside for at least a half hour walk every day.

I appreciate this may be a ridiculous and impossible request. Yes she is my PFB Wink

You're doing all the right things. Get her all germy now.

Also don't forget the multivitamin for yourself

Keep BFing, if you can

Get kiddies to cough on her, wipe their noses on her face, chicken pox parties. If a family member is ill, send her round!

All of the above are just me being daft but avoiding sickness completely is going to be tough.

My DD was sent home from nursery the other week for doing a really big poo! She was bouncing off the walls at home!

Confused Don't you realise that going to nursery is the 'building immunity' bit?

@senua of course, but I'm talking about minimising days off by helping her body build immunity and cope with illness,

Thank you all for your suggestions

Not really, no. Fortunately, she'll be starting in the warmer months, but I would just have a plan for how you will manage. Can one of you work from home while trying to manage a sick child? It's not ideal, but I am the only one who can do my job. If I take a day off, work stops. So my employer would much rather me keeping working at reduced capacity with a poorly child than to take the day off. Or dh and I would do it in shifts. I'd do the day time while he went to work and then we'd switch and I'd work through the evening or catch up on the weekend. You can't help her not get ill, but you can come up with a plan now for how you can mitigate the impact on work for both of you.
