Poorly toddler not eaten for 5 days

I’m look for a bit of support and reassurance as I’m beside myself with worry :(

My little girl has got a viral infection and has eaten next to nothing in the last 5 days. I’m worried to death about her to the point it’s making me feel ill.

Has anyone got an ideas on what I can do or offer me some reassurance please!

She is managing to drink some milk every now and then but that’s all.

Is she drinking and does she have wet nappies? Those are the main concerns. When they're ill, they can go for an amazingly long time without food but they do need to stay hydrated.

Is she drinking? Have you tried all the usual treats?
If she is drinking then she will be ok on minimal food for several days?
More milk if she’ll have it.
Have you asked your gp for an opinion?

@Smartiepants79 they just say as long as she’s drinking but I find it so worrying that she’s gone 5 days with such little food

How little is little? Have you tried tempting her with her favourite things? Don’t worry about what she’s eating. Anything she’ll eat will do!

Whataretheodds · 15/01/2024 15:03

Is she producing regular wet Nappies?

A2010 · 15/01/2024 15:03

@Smartiepants79 all she’s had today is 2 digestive biscuit. That’s it.

When my daughter gets ill she eats and drinks the absolute minimum. Once in 4 days she had 2oz of water and about 4 grapes..total not per day!
I always get her checked over but after the first couple of times I now fret less!

How about thigs like ice cream, yogurt, custard, trifle, rice pudding? All things that will slip down easily, and you can buy in individual pots.

It's incredibly normal, you've no genuine need to worry

Things like jelly, yogurt, ice cream are all good for poorly children. They all contain sugar, fluids and are easy to digest/ absorb. Invalid diets used to be an important part of good nursing. Ordinary/ heavy food is not suitable.
