Baby wind

Please help, I am desperate.
My 13 week old has suffered from trapped wind at night since day one. HV and GP haven't been helpful so far and just dismissed it as normal for newborn babies.
He wakes up in pain several times a night. The only solution we've found so far is to feed him (he is breastfed) but I don't want to still be feeding several times a night. It's time consuming, exhausting and I know he can go much longer stretches without needing to be fed. I also worry that adding more milk to his belly and the process of feeding exacerbates the issue. But the breastfeeding relaxed him enough to either fall back asleep or get some wind out.
We've tried bicycle legs, tummy massage, infacol, gripe water, dummies, frida windi, colief, loads of tummy time, burping after every feed, staying upright after feeding. Nothing has had any effect whatsoever.
Is there anything else we can try or any other suggestions?

I could have written this myself! No help from professionals, felt completely fobbed off. 😞 We're on day 2 of colief now, this is our last resort so hoping this will work. I wonder if it could be silent reflux in which case something like gaviscon could help? Silent reflux can cause similar symptoms I think.
Babies tummies do mature by 3-4 months so if your little one is 13 weeks hopefully you (and I) shouldn't have to endure this for much longer. Good luck to you x

Do you mean burps or farts?

londonmum1984 · 15/01/2024 06:21

We had the same - have you tried wonky winding after each feed?

Thankfully, it does calm down as time goes on. We used to have to wind and then sit up for 20 mins after every feed. Now at 7 months he takes himself off breast, kneels to wind himself and then goes straight down to sleep.

You got this - everything is a phase (even though it feels like forever when you're in the middle of it).

This too will pass, but I’ve been there and it’s hard. Have you tried:
baby massage
warm bath (even better if you can find time for one too!!)
gripe water
infacol
frida baby have a device called a windee which wasn’t about when my baby had this but I have heard RAVE reviews and would’ve definitely tried it
At 13 wks you should start to see improvements soon. Took over 4 months at least before it eased for my first windy baby!

Thanks all.
Yes I've heard by 3 months (ish) things start to improve so really hope we'll turn a corner soon.
Yes I've tried all the suggestions, unfortunately not of them work for us. But I persevere with the wonky winding, massage and bicycles daily just in case.
We tried the frida windi again last night to no avail.
I'll just keep hoping things improve.
I have heard about the gaviscon but didn't see how it could work with a baby that won't fart, he's never sick or anything like that but I suppose it's worth a shot!

This is literally what I am experiencing now with my 11 week old. I have had same experiences with GP and health visitors - but as it’s getting to 3 month mark I think I’m going to go back and persevere with trying to get something done about it as the sleep deprivation is pretty horrendous..

I do the 20 mins upright after each feed that someone else suggested and am trying dairy free currently (have not noticed a difference as yet) but the health visitor did say there’s any number of things that could be causing the gas (if it’s not reflux) so may be a lost cause with diet alterations..

How is it going now? Has anything improved?

Hrodge · 28/05/2024 16:39

Also the other thing I haven’t tried which other people have suggested is seeing an osteopath/craniosacral therapist - not sure if anyone has had good experiences with that??

Hrodge · 28/05/2024 16:41

Oh and probiotics - my bub had to have antibiotics day 1 and feel that could have contributed to tummy issues - so maybe that’s worth a go??

I am literally going through the same. My baby doesn’t sleep at all at night. She strains and grunts constantly that we have to take it in shifts so we can get 4 hours sleep each. We have tried EVERYTHING over the last 9 weeks including bicycle legs, baths, probiotics, infacol, Windi and now me going dairy free. What worked for you? HELP!!!
