My darling son come home from school with threadworms🙄
WORST FEAR HAS NOW BEEN UNLOCKED.

Whole family has medicated, Place has been blitzed, son changes his clothes/pants 3 times a day, his bedding been washed twice, toys washed and hands washed all the time even when no need for it. Towels used once and throw out for wash..
Showering morning and evening.
Hoovers new home is the hall way for use all the time and disinfectant has never been more my bestfriend😓
As I say this is my worst nightmare so if it may seem over the top that's fine but I just can't with these😫

I've changed mine and my partners bed once do i need to change again or will detol spray be ok?

Why is he changing his clothes so often? I don't get it

FridayForever · 13/01/2024 15:16

You're way over the top with this - washing your bedding once is fine.

deanna23 · 13/01/2024 15:22

As I say this is my WORST fear, so you can bet I'm gonna continue to blitz all weekend to put my mind at ease.. he's also changing because the thought of eggs makes me cringe, so I'll continue to go over the top until my brain is assured.

It really isn't a big deal.

deanna23 · 13/01/2024 16:43

To you, maybe not but to me I've got a phobia of things like this. So yes it's huge.

Worst fear or not, you need to calm down or you'll pass on your anxiety to your children. It's not a big deal. My ds had it, I washed all bedding and towels once. He's not had it again.

wildthingsinthenight · 13/01/2024 16:45

I think you'll be fine with what you've done Op
I understand re having a phobia

scrivette · 13/01/2024 16:47

The most important thing now is to make sure you all wash your hands with soap and water (and try and get under the nails) before eating/putting your hands in your mouth.

deanna23 · 13/01/2024 16:52

Do people not understand what a phobia is🙄 sometimes it can't be helped, if I "pass my anxiety" onto my kids, it is what it is. Unfortunately can't just switch my brain. I have to clean until I feel that it's suitable.

make sure you do the second dose in a few weeks to completely eradicate them.

stonedaisy · 13/01/2024 18:54

Nightmare.. definitely unwanted. How did you discover it?

deanna23 · 13/01/2024 19:01

I see one moving in sons stool, which obviously I've freaked out about... went straight to the chemist luckily I had one nearby that was open until late

Oh god I know how you feel.

My Daughter had them recently and I was absolutely horrified. She even picked one out of her bum and told me she had found out why her bum was itchy - she'd found a 'splinter' hanging out. A part of me died at that moment.

We didn't go overboard with the cleaning though. Changed all bedding, took the medicine, washed hands thoroughly for a couple of days.

She's totally fine and none of the rest of us got it. You should be fine in your house given how well you've cleaned it etc.

I feel you OP.
DD came home from nursery with them twice since September.
We took the medication each time and again after two weeks, changed her bedding and hoovered each day for a week.
Also showered her first thing, clean pants and pjs each night for two weeks.
I too have a phobia of such things and was paranoid about the eggs being everywhere.
The key however is hand washing before food, after the toilet and stopping them putting their hands in their mouth to break the cycle, after this no eggs remain. No hands to mouth again, no cycle can begin again. We check her each week now to make sure she doesn't have them again. No sign since we have hammered home the hand washing and not putting in mouths.
I have chrons disease so the medication made me quite unwell so I am keen to avoid another incidence.
