Hair is so staticy when brushed

My DS has long hair. It's also very fine. I used to hate having my hair brushed as a child so I bought him some of those fake tangle-teezer style brushes as they don't pull as much.

The problem is that every time we brush his hair with this brush, it goes so incredibly staticy that it's all standing up around him like a halo. It's very odd and not something I remember happening when I was a child, but I didn't use those all-plastic brushes and I'm wondering if that is what causes it?

Anyway does this happen to anyone else, and how can we stop it? I googled it and detangling/conditioner spray came up as a suggestion, so I will try this.

Plastic brushes will send fine hair into a static-y mess, which is why I always use a wooden brush and comb.

Oh I think we actually have a wooden brush somewhere. I'll try to find that and see if it's better. I was worried about it being more pully?

I have very static hair . Try rubbing a tumble dryer sheet over his hair, this will help with the static. I also rub a small amount of Aussie leave in conditioner on my hair after brushing which helps as well.

Leave-in conditioner helps, but I basically never touch my or DD2's hair without the brush/comb or our hair being damp.

Seconding the tumble drier sheet - weird but it works!

It's the material the brush is made out of.

Tangle teezers don't do anything different that good brushing technique can't do (the bristles just bend easily so they can't be dragged through a knot, you can do that with technique).
Start at the bottom of the hair and work up, brushing knots carefully.

Detangling spray works but I also slightly dampen the hairbrush whenever I’m putting my daughters hair up and it helps

I don't think you can even buy tumble dryer sheets where I live unfortunately - I've never seen them anyway. I'll try dampening the brush, and looking for another brush! I know about the technique, but it takes much longer and he isn't a fan of sitting still at the best of times.

We use the child's farm leave in conditioner with my daughter. She has curly hair and without regular conditioner she gets very static and frizzy hair. She has her hair washed once a week with the child's farm solid shampoo bar and leave in conditioner 2-5 times a week

My hair is ridiculously static mess of I don't conditioner it probably. I use solid shampoo and conditioner. It's often said that you don't need to condition with solid shampoo but it's not my experience. My hair is waist length. I have a wooden brush with wooden bristles which does help too
